Corey J. Haugh

1975 - 2021

Corey Joseph Haugh, 45, of Greer, S.C., formerly of Vandergrift, passed away Friday, Jan. 15, 2021. Born June 29, 1975, in New Kensington, he was a son of Shawn M. Haugh, of West Leechburg, and Susan L.(Bissell) Smith, of Kiski Township. Corey was a 1993 graduate of Kiski Area High School, where he played tennis, and was a member of the ski club. He obtained his Bachelor's in Education from Edinboro University in 2000, where he played on the men's tennis team, and was a brother of the Pi Lamda Phi fraternity. Corey was a teacher at Independence Middle School in Jupiter, Fla., where he served as a girls' softball coach. His career continued as he worked as a sixth-grade teacher at Northwest Middle School in the Greenville County School District for the last eight months. Corey liked golfing, playing tennis, deck hockey and skiing. He was a huge fan of Pittsburgh sports teams and was known for his excellent sense of humor. Corey was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Joseph and Jean (Colwell) Bissell; and his paternal grandparents, Thomas and Mary Lou (Neidhammer) Haugh. Corey is survived by his father, Shawn Haugh, of West Leechburg; mother, Susan (Chester) Smith, of Kiski Township; son, Evan Haugh, of Greenville, S.C.; mother-in-law, Debbie (Elizabeth Koontz) Bauer, of Greenville, S.C.; brother, Garett Haugh, of Allegheny Township; sister, Noelle Haugh, of San Diego, Calif.; and several aunts, uncles, cousins and great friends. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 24, 2021, in the CURRAN-SHAFFER FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY INC., 100 Owens View Ave., Apollo. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, visitation will be limited to 10 percent capacity of the funeral home, and the wearing of masks and social distancing will be observed. Funeral service will take place at the St. Gertrude Roman Catholic Church, 303 Franklin Ave., Vandergrift, at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 25, 2021, with the Rev. Rodney Murray officiating. Everyone please meet at the church. Interment will be in Greenwood Memorial Park, Lower Burrell.
