James McFarland Obituary

James E. McFarland, 76, of Mammoth, PA went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Sept. 14, 2024. Jim was a proud U.S. Marine, serving two tours of duty as a radioman in Vietnam. Jim enjoyed his retirement following his tenure at Verizon as a lineman. Jim was an avid outdoorsman enjoying hiking, fishing, hunting, and most of all white-water rafting and kayaking. 'Old man River' as he was affectionately called, ran countless trips along the Youghiogheny amongst many other tributaries. His love and respect for the river have inspired many individuals throughout the years of his boating career. Above all, Jim loved God and his family. Preceded by his mother, Mildred McFarland; and brother, Gordon (Keith) McFarland, Jim is kept in loving memory by his best friend and wife of 42 years, Peggy; daughter, Leah (Ron) Ermlick; granddaughter, Magnolia Ermlick; brother, David (Cornelia) McFarland; sister-in-law, Alison McFarland; mother-in-Law, Anita Barnes; brother-in-law, David (Leslie) Barnes; and numerous nieces and nephews. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at the HOFFER WILT FUNERAL HOME, 2245 Mount Pleasant Rd., Norvelt, where funeral services will be conducted, by Rev. David L. Greer, at 11:30 am on Wednesday In lieu of flowers, please donate to Norvelt Union Church, 2339 Mount Pleasant Rd., Mount Pleasant, PA 15666.

I grew up looking up to and loving Jim like an older brother. He taught me so much. He introduced me to Jim Croce and Rod Stewart. How to design and build decks. How to ride my motorcycle Safely. He was a huge part of my teen years. Once we got into the biggest mud fight while building an awning on a rainy day in WV. It was so comical. My memories of us watching Johnny Carson and Midnight Special are some of my fondest. I would not be who I am today without my Big Brother Jim. I have always held him in my heart. The world and my world is a better place because of him. Love you always Big brother. I will never forget you. Your little sis, Debbie Louton
