Steven E. Solomon

1936 - 2021

Steven E. Solomon, 85, of Herminie, passed away Sunday, Nov. 14, 2021, in Transitions Health Care in Irwin, surrounded by his family. He was born June 23, 1936, in Latrobe, son of the late William E. and Miriam (Menhorn) Solomon. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Audra Solomon Dudek; two daughters-in-law, Kathy and Margaret Solomon; a brother, Charles Solomon; and two sisters, Frances Praisner and Kay Gonder. Steve was a retired carpenter with the Union Carpenter Local 462 and also previously employed at U.S. Steel. He was an active member with the Lutheran Church of our Savior in his early years. He was active with baseball with his kids and was a cub scouts and boy scouts leader for many years. Steve was in good standing of Philanthropy Lodge 225 Free and Accepted Masons of Greensburg. He was past president of Sewickley Area Lions Club and past board member of Crabapple Park and Pool and he was also a volunteer for the Sewickley Area Ambulance. He enjoyed scuba diving and was proud to have taken the Dale Carnegie Course. He also loved traveling, driving cross country a few times with his wife. He enjoyed spending time with his family and loved his grandchildren, attending all their activities. Steve is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, L. Henrietta (Sames) Solomon; three sons, Ernest (Linda) Solomon, of Manor, William Solomon, of Madison and Steven Solomon and fiancee, Gail, of Las Vegas, Nevada; son-in-law, Daniel Dudek, of McKeesport; eight special grandchildren, Joshua (Rebecca), Matthew, Michael, Daniel (D.J.), Noah, Lauren, Tara and David; six special great-grandchildren, Anastasia, Nicholas, Alexander, Peter, Georgie and baby Teddy; a sister, Emily Sarsfield, of Penn and two brothers-in-law, Greg Praisner and John Gonder, both of Harrison City; numerous nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and great-nephews. The family would like to thank the staff and nurses at Transitions and Bridges Hospice for all their love and compassionate care. Steve will be dearly missed by his family, friends and neighbors. Friends will be received from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 19, 2021, at the JOSEPH W. NICKELS FUNERAL HOME INC., 404 Sewickley Ave., Herminie, PA 15637, 724-446-7251. A funeral service will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home with Pastor John Gropp officiating. Interment will follow in Penn Lincoln Memorial Park.
