Albert Chamrad Obituary

Albert L. Chamrad, 99, of Lower Burrell, passed away, Thursday, June 13, 2024, in SW Veteran Center, Pittsburgh. He was born in Lowber, PA, on April 2, 1925, to the late Frank and Mercedas Ghion Chamrad and has been a long-time resident of Lower Burrell. Mr. Chamrad was an Army Air Corps veteran of WWII, where he was the B-17 tail gunner for the Bornstedt crew of the 601st Squadron, flying 35 missions over Germany. He was a member of the Lower Burrell American Legion 868, where he served as financial secretary, and a life member of VFW Post 92, marching in all parades until he was 92 years old. He worked as a high lift operator for General Electric for 15 years and then became a police officer for the Lower Burrell Police Department for 25 years. He was a member of the FOP Allegheny Valley Lodge 39, where he served as a financial officer. He was a member of St. Mary of Czestochowa Roman Catholic Church, New Kensington. He volunteered at St. Margaret's Hospital for many years. He enjoyed exercising and walked five miles a day well into his 90s. He also enjoyed going to the gym, playing cards, sporting events, and going to Atlantic City. He collected train sets, and every year he would bring them out, creating a beautiful village. He had tons of friends, loved being with his family, and was always willing to help anyone who needed it. He is survived by his son, Timothy Mark Chamrad of Vandergrift; daughter, Carol Ann (Robert) Szafranski of Boulder City, NV.; granddaughter, Tammy Lynn Szafranski (husband Gerald Pollack); and sister-in-law, Edna Mae Sukala of New Kensington. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Probel, Chamrad in 2007; and sister, Norma Burford. Friends will be received Monday, from 9 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 12 p.m., at THE RUSIEWICZ OF LOWER BURRELL FUNERAL HOME, 3124 Leechburg Rd., at Alder St. Burial with military honors by the Plum American Legion 980 will follow in Plum Creek Cemetery, Plum. The VFW will conduct a service at 10 a.m., in the funeral home, followed by the American Legion at 11 a.m. and the FOP 39 at 12 p.m. www.RusiewiczFH.com
