Edward Allen Mikesell, 83, of Delmont, passed away on Monday, Aug. 25, 2025. He was born Nov. 1, 1941, in Black Lick, the son of the late Roy and Mary Elizabeth (Rowley) Mikesell. Ed or "Pete," as he was known within his family and early in his life graduated from Saltsburg Joint High School in 1959, completed studies in accounting and business administration in 1961, and earned an associate degree (with high honors) in business management from Westmoreland County Community College in 1983. Ed served in the U.S. Army as a small arms repairman during the Vietnam War from 1964 to 1966. Prior to his military service, Ed worked for the New York State Natural Gas company in Clarksburg, WV, before beginning a lengthy career at Mellon Bank in Greensburg. After leaving Mellon Bank, Ed worked in Accounts Receivable at CVS Pharmacy before retiring and working part-time at Cloverleaf Golf Course, in Delmont. Ed was an active member of Salem Lutheran Church, volunteered at the Delmont Fire Hall (where he was a social member of the Delmont Fireman's Ladies Auxiliary), was a member of the American Legion Post 247 in Delmont, and enjoyed bowling, golfing, and especially spending time with friends and family. In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by his loving wife, Nancy (Swank) Mikesell, who passed on Dec. 17, 2009; and his sister, Lois (Mikesell) Tonkin, on Aug. 14, 2025. Ed will be deeply missed by his partner of almost 15 years, Nancy Hunter; sons, Mark and Scott (Heather) Mikesell; brother, William (Mary) Mikesell; sister, Helen (Sim) Drew; brother-in-law, Gary Swank; nephews, David Mikesell and Adam Swank; nieces, Melissa (Swank) Sisti and Kristen (Swank) Balega; and several great-nephews and nieces. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2025, at VAIA FUNERAL HOME INC., 463 Athena Dr., Delmont (724-468-1177), followed by a service at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 28, 2025, for Ed at Salem Lutheran Church, 301 E. Pittsburgh St., in Delmont, with Pastor Kara Propst officiating. Everyone is to meet at the church.
