Robert J. Carroll, 70, of Oakmont, died Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2008, at St. Margaret Hospital Emergency Room. He was born May 14, 1937, in Greensburg, to the late James and Pearl Walthour Carroll. Bob retired from Gannett newspapers as chief photographer with 35 years of service, working out of Tarentum, New Kensington and North Hills offices. He received the Golden Quill award. Bob served in the Air Force from 1956 until 1960. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Verona. In earlier years, he coached with OAA (Oakmont Athletic Association) and served as president. Bob's top priority was his family. Husband of Caroline (Cooper) Carroll, with whom he would have celebrated their 50th anniversary on June 7, 2008; beloved father to Amy (Andy) Green Mower, of Oakmont, David (Sharon) Carroll, of Oakmont, and Chuck (Lisa) Carroll, of Plum. Brother of Jean Dillman, of Lewistown, Lottie Morrison, of Berkley, Mich., Chuck Carroll, of Sarasota, Fla., and the late James Carroll Jr., Richard Carroll, Lewis Carroll and William Carroll. Grandfather of Steve, Russell, Eric, Sean, Sarah, Maggie, Emma and Matthew. He is survived by longtime family friend, Joe Filip, of North Hills. Friends were received from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at BURKET-TRUBY FUNERAL HOME CREMATION & ALTERNATIVE SERVICES INC., 421 Allegheny Ave., Oakmont. Service at 11:30 a.m. Friday in Trinity Lutheran Church, Verona, with the Rev. Steve Myers and Father Regis Farmer officiating. Everyone meet at the church.
