Samuel R. Plazio

1957 - 2022

Samuel R. "Monkey" Plazio, 64, of Vandergrift, died Monday, June 6, 2022, in a work related accident. Born July 14, 1957, in New Kensington, he had been employed by PNC park as a grounds keeper, Kensington Mfg., working in the receiving department and currently Shanahan Transportation System, in Pittsburgh. Sam was Catholic by faith. He enjoyed playing cards, playing with his dogs, Baylee and Bella, had coached for a championship Little League team when his son was younger, enjoyed attending rock concerts with his son and he had also taken his father to all the home Pirates baseball games and was well known with all the kids as the best band parent and chaperone there was. Survivors include his mother, Eleanor Kay Donaldson Plazio, of Vandergrift; his son, Steven Plazio, of Pennsylvania Furnace; a sister, Debra (Russell) Ferringer, of Indiana; his nephew, Christopher King; and his loving partner, Janel Lavorini, of North Huntingdon. He was preceded in death by his father, Francis J. Plazio, in 2016, along with his dog, Raven. Family and friends will be received from 3 p.m. until time of service at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 16, 2022, with Father Thomas More Sikora, O.S.B., officiating, in the DUNMIRE-KERR & ROWE FUNERAL HOME INC., 244 Franklin Ave., Vandergrift.
