Candace Kerr Obituary

Candace Louise Kerr

September 21, 1944 - May 20, 2025

Goldendale, Washington - Candace Louise Kerr, 80, passed away on the setting sun of May 20, 2025 in her daughter's home in Goldendale, Wa., surrounded by her family.

Candace was born September 21, 1944, and was a lifelong Tacoma resident. She worked many different places throughout her career making close friends at each stop. Beginning with bookkeeping for Dr. John McGowen, assistant to the editor at the Tacoma News Tribune, the Russell Company, The Downtown Tacoma Association. Candace was grateful to complete her working career at World Vision, where she found such purpose and meaning helping to direct excess shoes, and clothing to the world's children in need.

Candace was a diamond in the dust, shining brightly in the sunbeams that broke through the clouds of the ordinary, through the mundane haze of normal. She was the melody that stuck in your ears and lived in your heart. She was "Nanny" to her 7 grands and 4 great grands, and many others who she welcomed and loved deeply. Her interests were vast, and her art of living was inspiring. In these last years, she endured chronic pain with patience and hope. She will be missed beyond words.

Candace was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Mary Louise Petty/Pollock. She is survived by her brother, Clayt Pollock of Tacoma, WA, wife, Lynn; nephew, Mark Pollock, wife, Maura; her son, Michael Kerr of Asheville, NC, wife, Meg, daughters, Claire and Grace; her daughter, Kathleen Kerr Lewis of Goldendale, WA, husband, Jonathan, children: Isaac (wife, Sarah, children, Michael, Hallie Jo, and Ryker), Oliver (wife, Gretha, son, Francis), Addison, Mara and Elspeth. Also survived by her incredible Band of Cousins, many beloved lifelong friends, and her wonderful church communities.

Candace valued connection, had a generous heart and deep regard for her fellow man. In honor of her memory, we invite you to get creative-- sponsor a meal at your local community soup kitchen, visit someone who lives alone, write a letter of gratitude to a person who has helped you along the way, donate to World Vision, volunteer at your local library. Most of all LIVE- live each day with intention and purpose, serving those around you with Love, knowing that life passes quickly.

I worked with Candace at The News Tribune when she was assistant to the publisher. She was so sweet and helpful - and her eagle eyes caught many an error in letters to the editor. My condolences to her family and friends.

Candy was a classmate at Lincoln High School Tacoma Washington Class of 1962. I had many classes with Candy. Upon graduation we all went on our own paths in life, marrying, having children, working on our careers. Our paths never crossed but I am happy to read about her wonderful life. I pray that the good Lord will comfort and bless Candy's family and friends remembering His promises that are never forgotten... Amen
