Cousin Marcus will be missed. For all the things he did for the community and family. But most of all for Marcus being Marcus.

He was a mentor and most importantly good friend to me. In the short time we were colleagues, he had a great influence to my life both professionally and personally. We had so many great conversations about sports, life, and education. I will miss him. Todd Sliva

Marcus was a crazed sports enthusiast. As long as I can remember he was always talking about baseball, then skiing, then…whatever sport, he was crazy about at that time. He even did Yoga! Baseball and Yoga??? I guess that works?
My daughter Kaela had a tennis competition with Eatonville High School. He wrote the sports articles for Eatonville. He came to support Kaela at a tournament in Eatonville even though she was playing for Vashon not Eatonville. He even mentioned her by name in his article with quite a bit of detail. We felt quite privileged. He would always ask about her and her tennis “career”. When she came to help me at school, he would take the time to talk with her.

Thank you for taking time Marcus.

What was genuine about Marcus was the fact that he advocated for students. He may have loved sports, but he genuinely loved children too. In meetings he always did what he felt was n ithe student's best interest and would stand up for what he believed would benefit them best.

Marcus always loved sports conversation and it's no surprise he would build a huge baseball field. We arrived late after everyone had gone to Eatonville for an end of the year party. Linda Takada, Omer from Turkey and Ann got lost (drove right by that huge baseball field) in the beautiful Ohop Valley…only it wasn't so painful, because we had never been there before! We enjoyed the views. We finally found Marcus after knocking on doors (everyone seemed to know everyone). Even though we were late, he took us on a private tour of his baseball field. Linda Belle, her dog, with her. Marcus explained in detail about the dugout and his devotion to building everything over a twenty year period. He showed us his tractor and shared how the ball was so visible due to the contrast of the trees with the ball. Even after all that he was welcoming to Linda turning her dog loose for a run. Belle ran across that field like a crazed dog…city dogs don't get out very often…but Marcus didn't mind even though the fields looked like they had been trimmed with manicuring scissors…it was a day we will never forget.
