Solveig Isaksen Obituary

Solveig O. Isaksen Solveig Olive Isaksen was born in Aaknes, Norway, on April 23, 1913 to Albert and Olufine Pettersen. She passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 10, 2005, in Puyallup, WA at the age of 92. She was one of nine children, growing up in a remote fishing and farming village in Northern Norway. She met and married the man of her dreams, Ingvald Emil Isaksen, a fisherman by trade. They immigrated in May of 1948 with their three children, arriving in New York Harbor on the SS Stavangerfjord. They traveled by train across the United States settling in Edgewood, WA, where they raised their family. Solveig tended to all the home chores while Ingvald spent many months fishing the Alaskan waters. Solveig was an active member of Nordslandlaget where she had many friends. She was proud of her Norwegian heritage and was fluent in both Norwegian and English. She loved her family and her candy drawer was always full when the grandchildren came to visit. She was a loyal member of Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church in Milton, WA. She participated in the sewing circle at Beautiful Savior as well as Senior Saints. Amazing at working with her hands, she knitted countless Norwegian sweaters for family and friends. She also enjoyed gardening, sewing and crocheting doillies and afghans for her family. Beloved mother, wonderful grandma, "Gram" to all her "gullbabies", and loving, caring, doting "Bestemor", she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ingvald in 1971. She is survived by her three children, Arvid (Myrna), Gerd Spencer, and Andreas (Judy); 7 grandchildren, Gary (Jody) Isaksen, Brian (Becky) Isaksen, Denise (Tim) Haisch, Kevin (Corene) Spencer, David Isaksen, Jerry (Melissa) Isaksen, and Dina (Reidar) Tennesen; 15 great-grandchildren, Jacob and Brandon Isaksen; Benjamin, Nicholas, and Alexander Haisch; Eric and Ryan Isaksen; Zachary and Jacob Ruyle; Lauren and Olivia Spencer; Michael and Sydney Isaksen; and Kristina and Hanna Tennesen; 2 great-great-grandchildren; Skylar and Haley Isaksen; 3 sisters, Ruth Nyheim, Rosella Pettersen, and Klara Haukland who still reside in Norway; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. We will miss her deeply. Celebration of her life will be held at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, Milton, on Friday, July 15, 2005, 3:00 PM. Graveside service will be held at Mt. View Memorial Park at 1:00PM, Friday. Memorials in her memory may go to Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church or a charity of your choice.

I talked to Gram one day at Lifecare and asked her, "Bestemor, what do you do in here all day long?" She answered, "I pray for you, I pray for the boys, I pray for ALL my family." How awesome it is to know that she was praying for us!

High King of Heaven, my victory's won,

May I reach heaven's joys, bright Heaven's Sun!
