Dear Steve:
I will miss you. Even though we sometimes made each other nuts, you were my "brother" and I really liked you. I hope you are with your parents and have reached eternal happiness. You deserve it.
With great affection,
Kathleen

Our Condolences to Duffy's family & friends. We just learned about his passing last Thursday(11/9). Steve was among a close group of young professionals at Pacific First Federal. Our group would do numerous activities together and Steve was always a part of that. He pitched Soft ball on PFF team, he attended many birthdays, get togethers, weddings, parties and we always enjoyed his presence.
I have many good memories of Steve, but my favorite will have to be on the way home from a vacation in Southern California my wife & I spotted Steve standing in line at a casino in Reno Nevada. When we said "Hi Steve, Steve Duffy!" he kept looking around wondering who could possibly know who he was in this far away place! We both chuckled about the odds of running into each other that summer!
We'll miss you Steve! Norman & Michel Bellamy

I too worked with Steve in downtown Seattle. You had the impression that for Steve, "working" wasn't really about "making money," it was more about being with people. And yes, he was a "big kid" at heart, "old fashioned" as he liked to say. He was a "one of a kind" friend I'm so glad to have known. We shared a common faith, he and I, so rather than say "goodbye" I'll just say "see you again soon Duffy!"

I knew him as Steve, Steven just wouldn’t have fit the man I knew. He was among the first friends I made on the Sounder commuter train. The “Train Gang” Steve belonged to formed up fast after service started in 2000, consisting of 4-12 friendly, talkative, outgoing folks on any given day. Steve was a natural shoe in; always calm, cool, and collected, yet toting a comfortable, warm smile around with him.
When we first met him, we all thought he was much younger than he truly was and were surprised to learn his real age. We all got a good laugh at what a poor judge of age he appeared to be, and how much older he thought I was than I actually am. I knew Steve was a sports fan as you all have recollected, but that wasn’t the main part of Steve’s personality that I/we knew best. He always wanted to know how –you- were doing, rarely was it about what or how Steve was doing. In fact, finding out how Steve was doing required a minor CIA operation.
I remember how I was once thrilled to learn the small factoid that he had trimmed back a lilac bush in front of his house! This was only after he had asked -- with genuine interest and listening patience -- about my four kids, my job, my car problems, my extended family, the TV shows I like, and more. I write this with a firm smile on my face, happy memories, and a bit of a frown that is doing an inadequate job of retaining the liquid in my eyes.
For over six years I enjoyed running into Steve on the train. I could spot him a mile away… tall, well groomed and dressed, a comfortable and relaxed stride, and that 1970’s brown 25 lb. briefcase! The original days of having an entire car all to ourselves, just the Train Gang, are gone. Now, the train resembles more of the traditional image of commuter rail… bustling and packed with barely an open seat, lots of people catching extra sleep, lots of people concentrating on work, some reading, and a small number chatting and enjoying each other’s company. When Steve and I would run into each other in recent years, we would be among the small number, glad to be doing the latter. I -- and the new train crowd, whether they realize it or not -- will truly miss the warmth he added to this world.
It was through another member of our Train Gang, Julie, that I first heard about the news story from Qwest field. At first we were hopeful it was a different Steven Duffy, we knew he had season tickets and thought they had to be close down by the field, and were crushed to learn it was our Steve. On behalf of the Tacoma to Seattle Sounder Train Gang: Richard, Julie, John O., Jenn, John, Tracy, Mo, Wendi, Tukwila Joe, Scott, and Kim, to name a few, we will miss you dearly Steve.

What can I say about Steve that hasn't already been said. Yes, he was funny and a great guy, but he was smart too. I worked with Steve @ the lending help desk & I used to send a daily trivia question to my co-workers. I tried really hard to stump him, but everyday he had the right answer and on occasion told me there was more than one right answer.
Life is short and I pray that we take the time to know God as Steve did.

I knew Steve working with him at PFF/PFB. He was a great person and there will never be another Duffy in this world. We had many conversations about our old high school, Lakes High. I saw him several times throughout the years and regret not ever keeping in close touch with him. My nickname for Duffy was "Chatty Cathy" because he would always be talking. I will always forever in heart think often of Steve, especially on Halloween, his birthday. HAPPY BIRTHDAY STEVE!!!
My condolences to the family. You were lucky to have him as part of it.

I worked with Steve at the Lending Help Desk at WAMU. He was a really sweet guy and always loved to chat about anything and everything (especially the Packers, Seahawks and Mariners). He was very honest, polite, caring and sincere. He loved to have fun and was just a big kid at heart. He brought many a smile to my face. I feel so fortunate to have known him!
I'll miss Steve, but am confident he is in a much better place in heaven with his Lord. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends at this difficult time.

Steve was one of the kindest people you could ever meet. We will think fondly of the Christmases and holidays spent together. We will not forget the last time we spent with Steve in April 2006 on a trip back to visit family and how we caught up again with Steve and how he promised to come and visit us in Australia.
Our prayers and thoughts are with Maureen and her family at this sad time.

My family met Duffy (I don’t think any of us have EVER called him Steve) through my sister, Cara, who worked him many, many years ago. From the first day that we met him, he was adopted into our family. He fit in with all of us like a round peg. Duffy has been there for my family through all of our ups and downs. He’s seen the good and the bad and kept coming back! He honestly had to be the kindest person I have ever met. He always wanted to know how you were doing and would listen intently as you told him about your day, your problems, your worries and you joys. He was a great friend and I loved him very much. I have many wonderful (mostly comical) memories of our time together and I will cherish them always.

My thoughts and prayers are with all who are affected by this loss. I worked with Steve at PFB many years ago when I was just starting in the work force. He was such a nice person to be around. We saw eachother a few years ago at Burger King and it was nice visiting with him and talking to eachother just like it was yesterday. He was such a kind and caring person, I'm sure he's in a much better place now.

I worked with "Duffy" for two years, and I enjoyed every minute. That guy really knew how to put a smile on my face. He was caring, funny and a ALL around great guy. "Duffy" would think this was funny, but I really want to know, What do you do with all that stuff you had at your desk??? You will be missed.

I worked with Steve at WaMu at the Lending Help Desk and can't believe he's gone. He was passionate and caring & I will always remember him with that "Duffy" smile on his face...even when he knew he was pushing your buttons. :) My sincere condolences go out to his family. Steve will be missed dearly.

I had the pleasure of working with Steve at the Consumer Lending Help Desk in Seattle. He always seem to have a smile on his face, and to hear him laugh always brought a smile to my mine. He was a man with a heart of gold, and will be missed by all.

I only met him once through some mutual friends and he was on his way to a Seahawks game then too. He was very nice and smiled a lot. Steve passed doing something he enjoyed. May his family and friends take comfort in their memories and that he is at peace.

Steve was a great guy with a willing smile. He was always very kind to everyone I ever saw him interact with. I had seen him a couple of years ago at Qwest Stadium at one of the games, and said HI, of course I didn't know it would be the last time I actually saw him. I regret not having kept in more contact with him. He was definitely one of a kind and we were blessed to have had him in our lives for the times that we did.
I hope his good nature and willingness will be the legacy he leaves behind. Pay it forward.

Steven was one of the best men in our wedding 16 years ago, and one of my closest friends the last 30 years.
He enjoyed his friends, loved his family and his church, and was one of the nicest, most genuine people you could ever meet.
I was his attorney, and will help the family in the next few weeks. Given his privacy, and the fact that we have to figure out his life, if anyone wants to contact me about details of his life over the next few weeks, his family would appreciate that as well.

Steve came into my life in August of 1981. From a co-worker, to a dear friend, to one of my "chosen family". He became as a son, even calling me "Mom" on occasion. He was such a wonderful young man, so polite, considerate, thoughtful, and I could go on and on naming his good qualities. He was fun and made friends easily. A multitude will miss him, but there is also a multitude to greet him where he has gone.

What a great guy. I worked with Steve both at PFB and at WAMU. Even though not in the same building at WAMU we were great IM buddies and met for lunch when we could. I will remember with fondness the great times we had. The PFB camaraderie, the afterwork gatherings, the bowling leagues. Steve was instumental in keeping his friends together throughout the years. He was one special guy. I find comfort that Steve is with his Lord...and with his parents and sister in a place he knows is the ultimate paradise.
