Ruby Jeanne Morton-Hill (Koehler), born April 8, 1942, in Long Beach, California, passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on August 17, 2025, in Pasco, Washington. She was a beloved homemaker and devoted mother, whose life was rich with love and joy, particularly centered around her family.
Ruby was the proud mother of son James Morton, daughter Andrea Finley, and son Thomas Morton. She is survived by daughter Andrea (Jeff), son Tom (Lana), sister Hazel (Dodie) Gregory, niece Renae Foster (Jack), nephew Brad Victry (Kristen), as well as grandchildren Kyle Morton, Tristan Morton, Tara Young (Russ), Jeremy Finley (Kristina), Morgan Day (Pete), Gina Morton-Warner, Whitney Morton, 14 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren. Ruby was preceded in death by husband Orville Hill, father Harold (Bud or Pa) Koehler, mother Lahoma (Granny) True, and son James (Jimmy) Morton.
Family was everything to Ruby. She cherished the time spent with her loved ones, where she shared meals, played games, and participated in every family activity possible, no matter how big or small, regardless of any personal sacrifices she had to endure. In her younger years, Ruby's passion for the celebration of birthdays or various events and holidays manifested itself in her dedication to decorating, sewing costumes, preparing delicious meals, baking, and organizing memorable activities that made family gatherings truly special. Her enthusiasm for these occasions and the love she displayed for family left a lasting impression, and her efforts brought joy to family and friends alike.
Ruby loved flower gardens, and was a master gardener to anyone who saw the beautiful flower gardens she planted at every home she lived in. She was also an avid traveler, having visited all 50 states, including Alaska with husband Orville on their private boat via the Inside Passage, a testament to her adventurous spirit and desire to explore the world around her. She also had a profound love for her pet dogs, who were her faithful companions throughout her life.
Ruby will be interred at Einan's Sunset Gardens in Richland, Washington. In lieu of flowers, please donate in her name to a deserving
charity of your choice. A Celebration of Ruby's life will be held Saturday, September 6, 2025 from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at the Community of Christ Church located at 1004 Long Ave, Richland, WA 99352. A reception for family and friends will be held at son Tom's residence immediately thereafter.
Ruby's indomitable spirit, and the love she shared without reservation, will be fondly remembered by all whose lives she touched.
