David McClain Obituary

David (Dave) Ray McClain 5/7/1937 to 11/12/2024.

Dave was born in Jonesboro, Arkansas. He grew up on a cotton farm with his 6 brothers and 1 sister. After graduating high school he went to work for American Airlines and retired after 38 years, he also did a stint in the Army for a little over two years..While stationed at Fort Huachuca he met the love of his life Margaret Gibbons. They were married September 1, 1962 and were together for a beautiful 62 years. They lived in Dallas, Texas and moved to Tucson, Az, then to El Paso Texas and finally settling back in Tucson, AZ. They had two children Rae Anne and John, two grandchildren Ashley Nix and David Burleigh and one great grandson Emmett Nix. He was so proud of his children, grandchildren and his great grandson. Dave was a caring and loving husband, father, grandfather and uncle. He was the father figure for his grandchildren and had a special bond with both of them, taking them on vacations, going to T-ball games, football games, basketball and volleyball games cheering them both on to victory. Emmett and his Papa had a special bond and were two peas in a pod. Watching their favorite shows Sponge Bob and Americas Funniest Videos. Their laughter was contagious as they watched their shows with Emmett sitting in his lap snuggling.

Dave had a witty sense of humor and loved to tell a new joke. He was the life of the party, his laugh could be heard for miles. Dave and Margaret had a comical banter between the two of them that would have everyone laughing. First and foremost his family came first, he did anything and everything he was able to for them and always had a hug waiting for you. He was the biggest cheerleader you could have in your corner and always let you know how proud he was of you.

Dave is survived by his wife Margaret McClain, daughter Rae Anne Burleigh, son John David McClain, granddaughter Ashley Elizabeth Nix(Burleigh) and Brandy Nix, grandson David Lynn Burleigh, great grandson Emmett Lee Nix, brother Tyler McClain and many nieces and nephews.

Margaret, Rae Ann and David - my sister Diana ran into Christie Scott today and she shared that David had passed. I remember during the time I worked at America West Airlines at the Tucson airport, I would see Dave frequently at the American Airlines counter and wave. He would always smile and yell out "there goes one of those good-looking Garcia girls". My family loved our time on Beechwood Pl, including spending time with the wonderful Mc Clain family. Sending you prayers and love for the loss of your wonderful Husband and Father.

Margaret, Rae Anne & John, I was saddened to read of David's death. I am Kelly Jo Garis Copley from Arbor Street around the corner and forever in my memory. My mom and dad always had the best time with you Margaret and David, my memories include lots of laughing, bbqing and swimming!

I was just talking about your silver aluminum Christmas tree with the spotlights last month. That remains the coolest Christmas tree ever!

I pray for all of you during this very difficult time. I know that David, Daddy (Bob Garis) and Mom (Sue Garis) are in heaven having a beer, cracking jokes and laughing until tears are running from their eyes.

My family is back in Tucson, please reach out if you are up to reconnecting. My husband and I just became grandparents, we live on the east side.

My Dad (Don Miller) so enjoyed talking with and emailing Mr. McClain. They worked together at AA. Dad was airport manager. When he passed in 2021, Dave wrote such a nice note. Prayers for you and your family.
