Leslie Lederer Obituary

Leslie Roy Lederer 93, resident of Marana and Tucson since 1967, passed away April, 26, 2013. He was born on the homestead September 3, 1919, to George and Ella Lederer near Conrad, Montana. By age nine, he was driving the tractor - working along with his brothers and their father. After graduating high school at 16, he went to CCC camp and worked in the Glacier Park area along with his brother, Warren, cutting trees and building roads. Later he moved to Los Angeles where he worked at Lockheed Aircraft assembling P-38 fighter planes as a riveter. He joined the Navy 57th Construction Batallion (Seabees.) In the South Pacific he helped clear land for roads and airstrips and built refrigerated Quonsets which would hold supplies for armed forces in the area. After the war he and his brother Bob purchased, in partnership, farm land near their parents' farm with their savings and the GI Bill that would help them get through their first year with $200 for each family each month for living and farm expenses. He married Helen Hostetter in 1947. In 1967 they sold the farm in Montana and moved to Marana and he soon found work with ASARCO at Silverbell mine where he worked until he retired in 1981. He is preceded in death by his son, Charles Thomas; his second wife, Jeanne; his brothers, Warren (Mary), Harry (Dolores), Clair and his sister, Elsie Lederer Johnson; sister-in-law, Dee wife of brother, Bob; nephew, Fred (Margaret) Lederer and his companion of 11 years, Helen Cesarek. He is survived by sons, Bill (Ruth) of Lake Bluff, IL, Lou (former wife Cindy) Tucson, Joe (Lorene) of San Carlos, CA and daughter, Leslie B. (David) Bohm of Tucson; brother, Bob of Springdale, AR and brother-in-law, Burt (Dort Lederer) Johnson of Conrad, MT and his first wife, Helen of Tucson. Seven grandchildren mourn his passing, Aleksa and Adam of Chicago, Scott and Sarah of Tucson, Charlie and Everett of San Carlos and Linda Bohm of Tucson. He is also survived by 20 nieces and nephews, their spouses, children and grandchildren, his step-daughters, Donna Murphy, Carole Ellison and Jacque Ellison and Cindy Hulsey, like a daughter. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, May 18, 2013 at Fountain of Life Lutheran Church, 710 S. Kolb Rd. at 11:00 a.m. Arrangements by BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL.

Dear Lederer Family,
It is with such sadness that we read about the passing of Les. We have many memories of your family when you moved to Marana. It was our happiness to visit in your home so often, especially at the pinochle parties. Your family members were always stalwarts of the Marana Community Christian Church with your loving support of so very many activities there. Please accept our condolences.
