Michael Aaron Lyman

Michael Aaron Lyman Died August 26, 2014 after a long courageous battle against cancer. Born May 3, 1942 to parents Veronica LaGoy and Leo Lyman in Beacon, NY. He attended high school and Rockland Community College after serving in the United States Air Force. Michael's work history included (Retired) Police Officer in New York State, Volunteer for President Groves-Lincoln Park Neighborhood Association, Worked closely with Tucson Police Department in the early years to develop the Volunteers in Prevention program along with Park Patrols, Envisioned, guided the development of the Atturbury/Lyman Bird and Animal Sanctuary, located in Abraham Lincoln Park as well as pioneered and developed the Youth Employment and Enhancement Program for the Sanctuary. Michael was blessed to work along the Disabilities Association to ensure the nature trail was handicapped assessable, Ward IV, Tucson Parks & Recreation Department/other city and private agencies/resources to cultivate, enhance and preserve the Sanctuary. He also was able to aid the Tucson Audubon Society to bring a grant to the Sanctuary to re-vegetate and improve the Sanctuary through watershed development, natural plant/tree irrigation, planting over 600 new trees. Michael also worked thoroughly with Pima Community College, East Campus and neighborhood in many social, collaborative programs. Michael is survived by his soul mate and wife of 48 years, Darlice (Murph); sons; Michael Lee, Gregg Joseph, Martin Bruce, Stephen Edward, Dennis Daniel (Elizabeth); nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; brother, Veron (Patricia) Lyman. Preceded in death by brother, Donald Lyman and sisters, Barbara Salvas and Shirley Campbell. We wish to thank the staff of UAMC, especially D2W and Dr's Fagan, Bloom, Rivero, Walker, Bazzell; Health South RIT and TMC Hospice for all the attention, love and supreme care you gave Michael. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, September 6, 2014 at 12:15 p.m. at Our Mother of Sorrows Parish. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to GLPNA/ Atturbury/Lyman Bird Animal Sanctuary.
