Robert Key Obituary

Key Jr., Robert Wayne

September 8, 1953 - April 16, 2024

Robert Wayne Key Jr. (Bob) was born on September 8, 1953 in Sullivan, Missouri. Bob married Sue in 1973. He served in the Navy and was stationed in Alameda, California.  After the Navy, Bob earned a degree in civil engineering from the University of Missouri at Rolla.

In May of 1980, he began a career as a petroleum engineer. In 1984, he and Sue moved to Tulsa. In 2011, he founded Taylor Energy, partnering with Alan Mikell-his best friend.

Bob had many talents. Carpenter. Pilot. Basement organizer. Choir singer. Hunter. Fisherman. Jewelry mechanic. Toy fixer. Grill chef. Cyclist. Horse-back rider.

Bob was a happy soul who loved the simple joys of life: Playing with his grandkids. Fishing. Grilling. Driving in his truck, listening to country music. Bob retired in 2020 and spent his final years with family and enjoying his cabin at Lake Eufaula, scheming ways to outwit the crappie.

Bob died on April 16, 2024, at the age of 70. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Sue; his daughter Sammy; son-in-law Alex; his three grandchildren; sister Karen Adams (CW); brother Donnie Key; brother Kenny Key; and sister-in-law Karen Burgess (Keith); and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins whom Bob loved dearly.

Services will be held at St. Bernard (4001 E. 101st. St., Tulsa), with a rosary on Friday, April 26th at 6:00 p.m. and funeral mass on Saturday, April 27th at 10:00 a.m. with reception immediately following. Memorial donations may be made to Catholic Charities.

We love you forever, Dad.

I met Bob at the dog park. We sat many a cold morning while our dogs played. He was such a kind man who loved his family. He was always talking about cooking meals for them. He will be sorely missed from our dog park group.

I met Bob & Sue through our good friends, Jim & Mary. I’ll never forgot his beautiful and heartfelt smile as Sue told me the story of how she learned about the gift of their daughter Samantha. God is so good! Bob was a servant of our Lord, and blessed our church! Blessings and peace to the family.
