I was a graduate student at the University of Minnesota and had my first graduate class from Maynard. I loved the class, and loved the way that Maynard made us think about the important issues facing the field of special education. I will miss him.

Dr. Maynard Reynolds was an inspiration to educators. In the 1970's I had the wonderful opportunity to serve with him on several task forces and to select him to serve as the advisor for the Saint Paul Public Schools grant-funded efforts to advance the concept of - and the practice of - "mainstreaming" students with disabilities into "regular" classrooms. Dr. Reynolds led others to embrace this approach through his sincerity and gentle persuasion, along with his broad knowledge and amazing wisdom. He has always been one of my heroes. His was a life well spent in service to others.

I am most grateful for the graduate studies I had at the U of M. Maynard's influence was in those classes and students profited by his beliefs and passion!

I took my first doctoral class with Dr. Reynolds when he was a visiting professor at CSULA. I cannot overstate the influence he was in terms of shaping my journey through the doctoral program and how I teach today.

I was a graduate student in School Psychology at the University of Minnesota and had the opportunity to engage with Maynard during that time. His impact, including his book with Jack Birch and other writings, has influenced me (and my graduate students) for a lifetime. One of true greats.

Please accept my heartfelt condolences as you mourn Maynard's transition. I will always remember and be thankful that I had the opportunity to work with and learn from this intelligent, compassionate, and caring soul. Maynard helped me learn the importance of paying attention to human details and to value individual differences. Sallye McKee

Maynard was sometimes underestimated, but his accomplishments were both legendary and nationally significant. As a graduate student it was a privilege to watch him in action, and I shall always be grateful for my time around him.
