Michael N. THOME

1917 - 2014

WWII POW Age 96 of Sacramento, CA passed away peacefully Sept. 23, 2014. Born 1917, Dobie, WI. Inducted into Army 1942. Commissioned as 2nd lieutenant, trained in military intelligence & government; was assigned to 106th Infantry Div. in Europe. Captured during the Battle of the Bulge; awarded 2 Bronze Stars. Upon his return to the US assigned to the 8th Army, Yokohama, Japan. Promoted to Captain 1946. Worked for the State of MN in 1955; appointed CEO of the MN State Employees Retirement System. In 1968 accepted position as CEO of CA State Teachers Retirement System in Sacramento where he served for 16 yrs. He held high positions in professional and military organizations. Enjoyed retirement in Sacramento, gardening, reading, collecting antiques, attending cultural events, the company of good friends & family and his beloved dogs. He is survived by his two daughters Andre M. Thome of St. Paul, MN; Terese K. Stein (Dr. William E. Stein, D.D.S.), Aitkin, MN; grandsons William and Benjamin; 4 sisters, 1 brother. A Memorial Mass set for Oct 20, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Sacred Heart Church, Spring Valley, WI 54767. Interment will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery with Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, donations to charities or Memorial Masses.
