Hi Richard
I miss you a lot. We're down here in Cape Fair, MO for the winter. When we're out driving, Butch often says "Richard & I went down this road" or "Richard & I stopped here for coffee." I fondly remember the places you, Midge, Butch, and I have been to--Galveston, Cape Fair, Lake Benton, etc. You were such a kind, gentle, and courageous man who meant so much in so many peoples lives. Miss you lots!

Hi, I wrote to you last night but somehow it didnt get in.Buck is doing better they were out to the casino Monday and we forgot. Talked to peg and jo for awhile their both tired but doing ok. not much news here except the weather it has been in the 40s melting all the snow. Well Papa...
Gram has been asking and asking and asking me to sign your guest book and every time she says it I can almost hear you in my head... "Listen to your Grandmother." :) So here it is.
Not really sure what exactly to say. I'd tell you what I am up to, but I know you already know. You're up there making sure I stay out of trouble and sometimes I think you're there to save my butt when I do get into trouble. Gotta watch out for your Mia! :) I guess it's how I get by... Just remembering that you are right there watching over me listening to me blab to you about nothing and everything.
I love you. Keep an eye on Gram. Miss you more than I can explain.
Oh and 1 more thing. Gram was doing something the other day in the recliner and I look over and she has her tongue sticking out. She was concentrating really hard! I laughed so hard! Reminded me of you!

Grandpa, I'm sorry it took me so long to write to you. However even though I'm a little late writing I know that you know that there isn't a day that goes by that I don't think about you and miss you. The morning dove that we talked about, that was always on my neighbor's roof,has not been back since you passed away. Maybe you could send him back for me. I'm not sure why but that bird was always such a comfort to me. Kinda goofy I guess but then you already knew that about me. I miss you more than words can say and I would give anything to see your smile, especially when Connor would always ask you to take out your teeth! He still wonders why you could do that and really wants to know if your teeth are with you in Heaven! That kid is something else. The kids are going to write to you in the next few days so keep your eyes peeled. I'm going to write again soon and put a family photo of the 5 of us up as well. Keep an eye, no make that two eyes, on grandma! Say hi to everyone for me. Connor and I have a saying that we say to each other every day and I thought it would fit pretty well here, "I love you all the way to Heaven and nothing's bigger than Heaven except my love for you!" I think that is the perfect saying for how I feel about you and grandma. Good bye for now but not forever.

Jay & Bobbi are probably the last ones to sign your quest book, as we couldn't figure out how to get on line to sign it. Midge, finally had to send us the Web Site.
We have a funny little story for you.
Right before the funeral started we were looking at the memorial they had set up for you, and just commenting on different pictures etc. and Midge said to us that she thought Richard had the greatest wife in the world, we just all really laughed.
I do think she was right though, as she really did love you and loves her whole family a lot! (Even Jay & I)
She almost came to Arizona with us. By the way Midge, Jay did almost cry when I said you couldn't come along.

I have never forgotten the time you took me deer hunting out on the farm,,,I was about 8 years old and we were sitting and waiting for the big one to come along,,,all of the sudden you said listen, and I listened. I could hear something running in the leaves,,,It was the big one,,he came over the hill spotted us,, stopped turned, and was gone in a flash,,what a rack!! I remember you never even put your gun up,, you just wanted me to see this wonderful creature...I never forgot that and the patience, kindness, and love you showed that day.We got up walked home quietly just thinking about that rack..Thanks Richard...Alice

You will always be missed. I will always remember coming over to your house and all of us kids would slide down the staircase. It didn't matter on what, blankets, cardboard and at times mattresses off the bed and you or Midge never yelled at us to not do it or be quiet. We had a lot of fun times.
