Dearest Dad--you were my "first thought" as I awakened this morning . . . and a good thought, indeed. Spending time with family and friends yesterday as we honored your life and celebrated your home-going has only helped to make me want to be more like my dad. When I was a little girl, you'd hold my hand as we walked from our parked car to the store--I always had to practically run to keep up with you. I feel like I'm doing that now--your legacy is like that big strong hand of yours around mine, and Dad, I'll do my best to keep up with your pace! Yesterday brother Jamie kept telling me I have your "eyes"--I really hope that I can always "see" people the way you did--you and our dear Mother see the best and love much. I say that in the present tense because now you see love perfectly; for you have before you the face of our dear Savior. Love you forever . . . your grieving but thankful daughter whose birthday was made even sweeter remembering that if not for you, I wouldn't be here.

Dearest Roger, It was a great honor to be welcomed into your family almost 19 years ago. You and your dear Alice are quite simply, extraordinary people. I am again thanking you for raising an incredible man for me to marry. As I saw in your home--both on the wall hanging, and so much in your lives, "Children grow up to be the love they have known." All your children demonstrate your wonderful, godly example, and are now passing on this legacy of love to their children and beyond. Thank you Roger, again for your faithful, serving, loving and generous heart. Believing that God is already sustaining us mightily with His strength, and that you are enjoying the wonderful rewards of heaven! We thank God for blessing us with you, and look so foward to seeing you again! Much love!

My dad was truly a gift from the Lord! I was privileged to call him dad! I am privileged to have spent so much time with this great man! Dad was a Christian who truly lived a Christlike life loving people! My heart hurts tonight knowing I won't be able to sit with him, hold his hand, look into his eyes, hug him, receive his love back and to say "dad I love you". I'll see you again in heaven! Love from your son!

To Roger's family, I am so sorry to learn of his passing. He was one of the main reasons I started shopping at Walmart about 15 years ago. He was the best Walmart greeter... so genuinely friendly and attentive to his duties. I always enjoyed watching from a distance as he interacted with children. I encountered him many times around White Bear Lake and he always took the time to say "hello". He was so proud of his wife and family. He is not forgotten.
