Marlys Wolbert Obituary

Marlys Jeanette (Mattson) Wolbert, 85, of Pease, Minnesota, passed away unexpectedly on February 25, 2025 with her husband Marlyn at her side, while vacationing in South Padre, Texas.

Marlys was born on August 28, 1939, in Grandy, Minnesota, the third child of Hilda and Bernard Mattson. She graduated from Milaca High School and moved to Minneapolis where she worked in the Foshay Tower, after attending secretarial school. She later met the love of her life at the roller rink. She and Marlyn Wolbert were married on June 21, 1958 in Bock Emmanuel Lutheran Church and made their first home in Pease. They were married for 66 years and were blessed with four children.

Marlys kept busy with her children, but also found time to bake and serve at coffee breaks twice a day as well as serve the noon lunch for all of their employees at their business, Hi-Way Auto Sales. In addition, she baked and shared food with neighbors, friends, relatives, and people she met while running errands around town. Marlys was always very kind and focused on sharing the love of Jesus whenever and wherever she was. She purchased gospel tracts and coins by the thousands of which she always had a few in her purse to share.

Marlys was a thoughtful wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother to her family, and to many others who "adopted" her. She and Marlyn were honored to be inducted into the Milaca High School Hall of Fame, being recognized for their exemplary community service. They were also named Volunteer of the Year by the State of Minnesota and received special recognition by the Mille Lacs County Sheriff Department for their involvement in Jail Ministry.

She was very active in her church, in the Faith Christian School, the Gideons, an annual community Thanksgiving dinner which she began and then coordinated for 38 years, as well as numerous other ministries. She always had a servant's heart, and will be greatly missed by many.

Remaining to cherish her memory are her husband Marlyn; children Richard (Sarah), Ronald (Rosann), Mary (Tom) Roelofs, and Mark (Cindy); 19 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law Patty (Reynold) Mattson and Carol (Paul) Salstrom; brothers-in-law Lester (Arlys) Anderson, Curt Stokke, and Stanley (Shirley) Lund; brother and sister-in-law Warren and Lou Wolbert; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Reynold, sister Shirley Lund, sisters-in-law Arlys Anderson and Lois Stokke, brother-in-law Paul Salstrom, and grandson Micah Roelofs.

The Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, March 7, 2025 at 2 PM at the New Life Church in Princeton, Minnesota. Visitation will be held at the church on Thursday, March 6 from 4 - 7 PM and continue one hour prior to the service on Friday. Interment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Milaca. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Gideons International.
