Christopher J. Young

Christopher J. Young, 82, passed away unexpectedly on February 6, 2024 at his home in Newport. He was born on March 15, 1941 in Lowell, MA to the late Walter and Helen (Saunders) Young.

Chris served in the US Army and was stationed in Germany. He moved to Newport, NH in the 1970's and spent the rest of his life in the area. Chris loved his family, was passionate about his religion, and was a dedicated and involved volunteer in his community.

Chris was an active and longtime member at St. Patrick Catholic Church. He was a lector for many years, an usher, handed out religious books, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He volunteered at Kairos Prison Ministry for more than 20 years, serving at prisons in NH and VT and training volunteers throughout the United States. Chris led PECAN (Program for Emergency Church Assistance in Newport) for more than 15 years, and served on the Dismas Home of NH Board of Directors for more than 10 years. He also played an active role at the family restaurant, The Old Courthouse. Chris enjoyed the outdoors and was passionate about making maple syrup. He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them.

Chris was predeceased by his parents; wife, Mary Young; sister, Sharon Beaulac; step son, John Powers; and nephew, Mike Beaulac.

Surviving family members include his daughter, Sarah Fisher and her husband, Jay of Charlestown, NH; granddaughter, Cora; sister, Jane Rastallis of Newport; stepchildren, Alice and Robert Powers; nieces and nephews, Lori Keilly, Tom Beaulac, Karen Doucette, Michael Rastallis, and Monica Cashin; and other extended family members.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Dismas Home of NH, 102 4th Street, Manchester, NH 03102.

Calling hours will be held on Friday February 9, 2024 from 5 - 7 PM at Newton-Bartlett Funeral Home, 42 Main Street, Newport. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday February 10 at 11 AM at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Newport followed by a reception at The Old Courthouse Restaurant. Burial with military honors will be held at the NH State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen on Tuesday February 13 at 11 AM.
