Marcel Chris Adams

1935 - 2024

Marcel Chris Adams, age 89, passed away peacefully on August 17, 2024. Born in Korca, Albania on May 29th, 1935 to Chris and Fotika Adams, citizens of Manchester, NH.

Growing up on the west side of Manchester, Dad enjoyed the warmth of family and friends and worked in the family stores. He attended Manchester schools, including Brown School. In 1947, Dad was initiated into the DeMolay Lodge of the Freemasons. In 1953, he graduated from West High school. Dad attended MIT for one year in 1953, taking a leave of absence before joining the United States Air Force in 1955. After graduating from various training schools, he was inducted as a Second Lieutenant in 1956.

Dad was assigned to the 9th Tactical Reconnaissance wing, stationed at Shaw Air Force base in 1957 where he met his beloved future wife, Patsy Martin. They were married in 1959 and subsequently moved overseas to Wiesbaden, West Germany after Dad's squadron was assigned there. While in Germany, they had their first son Chris in 1961, and their second son Alexander in 1964. Dad was transferred back to the United States and was posted to Biloxi, Mississippi in 1965. In the same year, their third son Boyce was born in Manchester, New Hampshire. In 1966 dad was posted to Griffiss Air Force base in Syracuse, New York. He was initiated into the Memorial Lodge #648 of the New York Freemasons in 1967.

The family moved from Syracuse to Manchester, NH in 1968 occupying a house 3 blocks from his parent's house. Dad, Patsy and his brother Tom opened the Cat Alley restaurant on Dean Ave in Manchester. It was very successful until the Oil Shock of 1973, and the business was sold in 1975. In 1976, Dad was sent on Temporary Duty Assignment to Richards-Gebaur Air Force Base in Kansas City, Missouri, where the family spent the summer with him. After his assignment was finished, Dad left active duty in 1976. He attended Syracuse University from 1977 and graduated with his Bachelor's degree in 1978.

Dad went to work for Program Control Corporation at Hanscom Field in Bedford, Massachusetts until he started his favorite career, high school Science Teacher in 1985. He taught honors Physics, was Faculty Advisor for the US First competition and the Fantasy Club. Dad fully retired from the Air Force Reserve in 1995 with 40 years and 13 days of service, obtaining the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He retired from teaching after his wife Patsy passed away in 2001.

After retiring, Dad enjoyed his grandchildren Marc and Teagan and his great-grandchild James. He also enjoyed music, movies and had a fondness for reading and collecting books. He had the great fortune to pass away suddenly and peacefully with no major illnesses at his beloved cottage at York beach, that he has been staying at for 31 years.

He was preceded in death by his father Chris, his mother Fotika, his brother Tom and Patsy his wife of 42 years.

He is survived by his three sons Chris, Alex and Boyce; his grandchildren Marc and Teagan; his great-grandchild James and many cousins and friends.

A visitation for Marcel will be held Tuesday, August 27, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at McHugh Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 283 Hanover St, Manchester, New Hampshire 03104, followed by a funeral service at 7:30 PM.
