Stanley Buxton Obituary

Stanley Francis Buxton (Sonny) 75, died Wednesday, November 8, 2017 at the Hyder Hospice House, Dover, NH after a courageous battle (non-smoking) lung cancer. His loving and caring partner of eighteen years, Bruce Berenyi and sister, Janet were with him to comfort him throughout his journey and were at his side in his final moments.

Stan was born February 1, 1942 in Newburyport, MA. to the late Horace and Frances (McNeill) Buxton. He was one of twelve children, and is survived by siblings Richard, William, Dorothy Milbury, Janet, Jonathan and Elizabeth Kaufman and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by siblings, Robert, Donald, Kenneth, Nancy and Anthony.

The Buxton Family moved from Newburyport in 1954 to a lovely farmhouse in Kensington which boasts the largest sugar maples in the state. Stan's love of raising poultry was instrumental in bringing back an almost extinct breed of Java Chickens. He raised over two hundred chickens and donated the eggs to Michaels House in Exeter. He also enjoyed nature, liked to take a walk on the beach, or the local walking trails or hike in the mountains.

Stan was a graduate of Exeter High School where he played the drums in the band. He received a Bachelor Degree from University of New Hampshire, a Masters Degree from University of Maine, Orono and attended University of Wisconsin. He proudly served in the United States Navy. Among his many achievements, he was a Mason and served as Master of Star in the East Lodge, Exeter, Rockingham County Commissioner of Fish and Game, N.H. Realtor, a Counselor at Harbor Homes, Amesbury, MA, Sign Language Interpreter for the deaf, owner of Sonny's Garden Center, Stratham, NH, manager of Starlight Express Gift Shop, Exeter and employee/mentor at Outdoor Pride Garden Center, Rye, NH.

Stan "Sonny" was a great joy to his friends and family. He had an easy manner, quick wit, sense of humor and unique way of making people smile. He was especially loved and understood by his mother and beloved Aunt Edna whom he spent many happy times with at her guest house in Rockport, MA. He will also be greatly missed by his mentally challenged brother Dickie, for whom he was a guardian. Dickie enjoyed visiting and having fun with Stan and Bruce.

Relatives and friends are invited to join the graveside Celebration of Life Service conducted by Rev. Bobby Thompson and Military Honors, Sunday, November 19, 2017 at 2:00 PM at the Buxton Family Burial Ground, located at The Buxton Homestead, 194 Drinkwater Rd., Kensington.

At the request of Stan and Bruce there will be no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the NH SPCA, PO Box 196, Stratham, NH 03885 or the Living Innovations, 69 Tide Mill Rd., Greenland, NH 03840.

My deepest condolences to Dickie and Janet and the Buxton family. I met Sonny a couple of years ago and it was so obvious the love he had for his brother Dickie as they teased each other at the kitchen table. Sonny's love and beautiful smile will be greatly missed. May God carry him in the palm of His hand and may God bless the Buxton family as they grieve their great loss.

To a very good friend and even better man. The world has lost a very fine person who cared about making life around him better for everyone. I will miss Stan's humility, humor and kindness. R.I.P my Friend. I know Bruce and I will have many good conversations about the fond memories you left behind to be cherished.
