David P. Hayes 1940 - 2017
PALM CITY, FL - David P. Hayes, 77, of Palm City, FL, and formerly of New Hartford, died July 31, 2017, at Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, FL.
He was born January 22, 1940, in Little Falls, NY, son of the late Daniel and Elizabeth Sheppard Hayes. He graduated from St. Mary's Academy and attended Utica College. David served in the US Air Force.
He married Josephine Caiola August 5, 1961, at St. Mary's Church, Frankfort.
Dave worked as a Manager for Sears. In 1969, he opened his own business, Dave Hayes Appliance Center, Inc., something that brought him great pride. The business is currently being carried on by his sons and grandsons, representing three generations.
He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church, New Hartford, and Holy Redeemer Church in Palm City, FL; he was also a member of the Rotary Club of Utica and was awarded a Paul Harris Fellowship. He was a former member of the Cedar Lake Club and the Hammock Creek Club in FL.
Dave loved boating, bowling, golfing and tennis. When Dave was in Florida, people would ask Dave, where are you? Dave would respond, "I'm in paradise." Dave took great pride in the fact that he was invited to an Amana VIP golf tournament in Iowa and that he was on the winning team.
He is survived by his wife, Josephine; his son and daughter-in-law, David, Sr., and Kim Hayes, of New Hartford; his grandchildren, David, Jr., and Krystle Hayes, of New Hartford, and Justin and Megan Hayes, of New Hartford; his great-grandchildren, Isabella, David, Juliet and Austin; one sister, Elizabeth (Robert) Finer, of Novato, CA; his sister-in-law, Mamie Scalise, of Frankfort; his brothers-in-law, Peter (Janice) Caiola, of Herkimer, Francis (Kathy) Caiola, of Frankfort, and Gary (Michele) Caiola, of Frankfort; many nieces, nephews and cousins; and his favorite dog, Frankie. He was predeceased by six brothers, two sisters and a brother-in-law, Ralph Scalise.
The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to the care team at Moffitt Cancer Center for all of the care for Dave and the family.
The funeral will be Monday at 10:00 AM at St. John the Evangelist Church, New Hartford. Entombment will be in Calvary Mausoleum. Calling hours are on Sunday from 2-6 PM at Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral and Cremation Services, 13 Oxford Rd., New Hartford.

A great friend in the Major Appliance business. With the many manufacturers that I represented David always treated me well and with respect. He actually became a really nice personal friend over the many years that we did business together. I will remember David and his family well as long as I am around.

Jo, Dave and family

Please accept my deepest sympathy for the lose of my dear friend and previous customer. David was one of my favorite dealers and friends in the Appliance Business. I met you both in 1976 and representing a number of Appliance Companies did a great deal of business with you. It was always fun and I earned a great deal of respect for all of you. I believe I was your rep when Dave went to the Amana Golf Turn in Iowa, he was always a great golfer. I will always remember all of you as friends even more then dealers, as we became good friends over the years. Rest in Peace David.

Dear Family,
We were so sorry to hear of the passing of your husband, father, and grandfather. I remember when we moved here how helpful he was getting us set up with our appliances, he did not even know us and all he told me just give a check to the guys on delivery, that spoke volumes to me and we have been customers ever since...Truly a wonderful caring person...We send the family our deepest sympathy..

I just read Mr. Hayes passing in the OD and I want his family to know just how sad I felt over his passing. Mr. Hayes sold me a Zeneth Console 27 inch screen back in 1973 -and it is still perfectly running, and has never caused me to put a penny in repairs. The last time I spoke with Mr. Hayes was a few months ago where I ordered a Frigerdaire Air Conditioner over the phone. I spent a few minutes talking to him and praising him for the way his Grandsons are carrying on the business just like he taught him and how proud he should be. Mr. Hayes was a great man and I will always remember him. May be rest in peace knowing how many people loved him.
