Eugene Zurakowski Obituary

Eugene R.
Zurakowski
WHITESBORO
Eugene R. Zurakowski, 73, of Whitesboro, was called to his eternal home on Tuesday, August 12, 2014, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center. Gene was born on November 17, 1940, in Yorkville, NY, the son of Louis and Stella (Orlowski) Zurakowski. Gene was a 1958 graduate of UFA. On August 19, 1961, he was united in marriage to Gladys Lasota in Holy Trinity Church, a happy union of 53 years. Gene was employed at Chicago Market for 29 years, the Observer Dispatch and later retired from M & T Bank in New Hartford, NY. He was a member of St. Michaels Lancers and St. Michaels Society of Holy Trinity Church and the New York Mills and Whitestown Seniors. Gene was an Ambassador for Blue Cross Blue Shield and an Inspector for the Oneida County Board of Elections. He served as an Eucharistic Minister at St. Marks Church. Surviving Gene are his beloved wife, Gladys; two devoted daughters and sons-in-law, Melissa and Frank Acquaviva, Jr., Utica, NY, and Erika and Scott Young, Leesburg, VA; a loving son, Brian Zurakowski and Shiona Groth, Whitesboro, NY; brothers and sisters-in-law, Charles and Teresa Zurakowski, Clifton Park, NY, and Fred and Patricia Zurakowski, Utica, NY, and sister-in-law, Frances Zurakowski, Utica, NY; his cherished grandchildren, Allison Acquaviva, Utica, NY, and Taylor, Brady and Logan Young, Leesburg, VA. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, close cousins and friends. Gene was predeceased by a brother, Louis Zurakowski, and two sisters, Josephine Misiaszsek and Eleanor Caseletta. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated Saturday at 11 a.m at St. Marks Catholic Church, North Utica. The family will receive guests at the conclusion of the Mass. In lieu of flowers, remembrances in Genes name may be made to Spring Farm Cares, 3364 State Rte. 12, Clinton, NY 13323. Envelopes will be available at the church. Gene was a beloved husband, devoted father and cherished grandfather who was a pillar of strength to his family. A generous man with many friends, he always put others before himself. He loved family vacations, card games, wine and working outdoors. Especially fond of animals, Gene was a grandfather to all pets and considered his animals his grandfur babies. Gene will never be forgotten and will be deeply missed by all remembering him with a smile. Arrangements are under the direction of Myslinski Funeral Home, 470 French Rd., Utica. Truly a good man with the biggest heart in the world. My family was blessed to have known him and we are all better for having known him. A memory I will always cherish is the day Gene and I sat on Erika's couch watching our families playing and talking and he turned to me and said, "How did we get to be so lucky? Beautiful wives, beautiful kids and grandchildren. I don't know about you, but I could not be happier." He always had a way of putting things into the right perspective. We love you guys and we will miss him.

Gladys,
So very sorry to learn of Gene's passing. I'll always remember the kindness of Gene and the work he did with Mom with the food baskets. I'll miss seeing him at the gym. Words can't express my sense of loss at his passing. Your family meant a lot to Mom. I can see Gene and Mom in heaven planning the list of food baskets needed at the holidays. Rest in peace.
Sincerely, Reggie Zagraniczny
