COLD BROOK, NEW YORK - R. Reginald "Reg" Greiner, 89, formerly of Cold Brook, passed away on September 12, 2018, with his loving family by his side.
Reg was born on January 19, 1929, in the Town of Russia, son of the late George and Lottie (Sajdzikowski) Greiner. He received his education at Poland Central School. On November 26, 1949, Reg was united in marriage with the former Doris A. Kane in Utica. His 50+ year career spanned working as an employee with Dairylea Ice Cream, operating his own business, D & R Distributors, along with his wife and later serving the industry with Byrne Dairy. Reg and Doris enjoyed many entrepreneurial ventures outside of his formal work, serving ice cream at Adirondack State Park campsites, Empire Farm Days, UCP Children's Program and other community-based events. After 55 years of a beautiful marriage, his beloved Doris passed away on December 18, 2004.
Reg was a longtime member of the Teamsters Union and, in earlier years, was active in many social clubs. His natural gift as a story teller and his shared love for selling ice cream with Doris, captured the hearts of all who knew him. He was affectionately known by all as the "Ice Cream Man". He also greatly enjoyed spending the winter season in Florida, cherishing the time spent with his family and friends.
