R. Greiner Obituary

R. Reginald "Reg" Greiner 1929 - 2018
Beloved Husband, Father and Grandfather
COLD BROOK, NEW YORK - R. Reginald "Reg" Greiner, 89, formerly of Cold Brook, passed away on September 12, 2018, with his loving family by his side.
Reg was born on January 19, 1929, in the Town of Russia, son of the late George and Lottie (Sajdzikowski) Greiner. He received his education at Poland Central School. On November 26, 1949, Reg was united in marriage with the former Doris A. Kane in Utica. His 50+ year career spanned working as an employee with Dairylea Ice Cream, operating his own business, D & R Distributors, along with his wife and later serving the industry with Byrne Dairy. Reg and Doris enjoyed many entrepreneurial ventures outside of his formal work, serving ice cream at Adirondack State Park campsites, Empire Farm Days, UCP Children's Program and other community-based events. After 55 years of a beautiful marriage, his beloved Doris passed away on December 18, 2004.
Reg was a longtime member of the Teamsters Union and, in earlier years, was active in many social clubs. His natural gift as a story teller and his shared love for selling ice cream with Doris, captured the hearts of all who knew him. He was affectionately known by all as the "Ice Cream Man". He also greatly enjoyed spending the winter season in Florida, cherishing the time spent with his family and friends.
Survivors include his six children, Reginald "Reg" (Judi) Greiner, Bluffton, SC, Christine (Kip) Utter, Phelps, Terry (Chuck) Shafer, Cold Brook, Patricia (David, Jr.) Zehr, Deerfield, Lori (Bob) Roberts, Remsen, and Eric Greiner (Kate Byrne), Cold Brook; ten grandchildren, Reginald Greiner, Jr., James (April) Greiner, Joseph Marton, Julie Marton-Poquette, Chad (Kim) Shafer, Karen Greco (Dominick Vita), Trisha (Rob) Warney, Amy (William) Owen, David Zehr, III, and Brooke Greiner; thirteen great-grandchildren, Logan and Avery Greiner, Matthew and Mason Poquette, Taylor Gonyea (Cale Hoffman), Nick, Makenzi and Anthony Tsirigos, Brett and Madison Greco, Morgan Warney and Preston and Kassidee Owen; two great-great-grandchildren, Lila Gonyea and Jimmy Hoffman; one sister, Barbara (Jerry) Cady, Cold Brook; one brother, Daniel (Jean) Greiner, Cold Brook; sisters-in-law, Marian Greiner, Oriskany, and Rosemary Greiner, Melbourne, FL; and many nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Patty (Bob) Robinson. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by five brothers, Robert, Philip, Ronald, Theodore and George Greiner; and by two sisters, Shirley Lynch and Marilyn Vorce.
Calling hours at the Autenrith Funeral Home, Newport, are Monday (today), from 4-7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. John's Church, Newport, Tuesday, at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Quy Vo, Pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Poland, where he will be laid to rest with his beloved wife, Doris.
