Robert Einstein Obituary

Robert W. Einstein 1932 - 2018
NEW HARTFORD - Robert W. Einstein, 86, of New Hartford, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 27, 2018 at the St. Elizabeth Campus of MVHS, surrounded by his loved ones.
Robert was born on August 6, 1932, in Lynbrook, Long Island, the son of the late Lester and Alice R. Kohn Einstein. He was a graduate of Lynbrook High School and later received an Associate's Degree from MVCC.
Robert received an invitation to join the, then Brooklyn Dodgers, as a southpaw first baseman. Instead, he volunteered at the age of 19 to serve in the United States Navy aboard an ammunitions ship during the Korean War. Following the war, he began a life devoted to family and community - running wherever and whenever needed.
On August 22, 1954, Robert married his soulmate, the former Loretta Bernstein in Temple Beth El, Utica; a blessed union which lasted 64 years. He was employed with Mohawk Airlines as a flight dispatcher until their closing. At that time, Robert became a United States postal carrier in New York Mills, where he formed a lasting bond with many people. Upon his retirement from the post office, he went to work for Centrex, New Hartford.
He was a member of Temple Beth El, Knights of Pythias, Lions Club, Optimist Club, Heart & Stroke Club and Mended Hearts. Robert was a volunteer for the New York Mills Fire Department. He and his wife were woodcrafters for over 25 years with a knack for crafting wooden banks which was known as "U Can Bank on It".
Robert is survived by his loving wife, Loretta; his daughters and sons-in-law, Debi and Jim O'Connell, III, of Troy, Sue and Donald Hahn, Jr., of Whitesboro and Sheri and Tom Pietruch, Jr., of Whitesboro; his grandchildren, Devorai O'Connell, Bryan Hahn, Nicole and Robert Hahn Miller, Leanne Hahn, Andrea Pietruch and Kelly Pietruch; his great-grandchildren, Bryanna Hahn, Maverick Miller and Charlotte Miller; his brother and sister-in-law, Edward and Viola Einstein, of TN; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Martha Shopiro; and his brother, John Einstein.
His funeral will be at 1 p.m., Sunday, September 30th, 2018, at Jacobson-Pizer Funeral Chapel, 1123 Court at York Sts., with Cantor Kalman Socolof, officiating. Interment will be in Temple Beth El Cemetery, Whitesboro. Visitation will be from 12 p.m. until the time of the service.
Contributions, in Robert's memory, may be offered to the American Heart Association, Alzheimer's Association or Stevens-Swan Humane Society.
The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the caring and compassionate staff on 3C at St. Elizabeth's.

Loretta and family,
I'm so sorry to hear of Bob's passing. You are all in my thoughts and prayers. You and Bob were wonderful neighbors and I think of you often. If there's anything I can do please don't hesitate to call me.

So sorry to hear about Uncle Bob passing. My heart goes out to you all. We hadn't seen each other in many years, but I have nothing but the fondest of memories. His sense of humor, kindness, devotion. He was there for me when others weren't, even picking me up from Hebrew school. We loved our piggy banks you all made us as kids, as well as those rubber band guns! He brought a joyful and humorous spirit to every encounter, and I hope that lives on in all of us.

Love,

Noah
