Estela Cavazos Obituary

Raymondville - She was our family's most-cherished blessing. She was our mom.

Estela Garza Cavazos went to be with the Lord on May 27, 2021. She was born on October 4, 1927 in Brownsville, Texas to Felicitos Garza and Manuela Canales Garza. She graduated from Brownsville High School in 1945 and received an Associate Degree from Southmost College. She worked at B.F. Goodrich in Brownsville for several years before meeting the love of her life, Oscar Cavazos. They were married on January 27, 1957. Together, they provided a warm and loving home for their four children. After marriage, she worked for the Raymondville school district and later as a social worker for Texas Health and Human Services, retiring after 20 years in 1988.

She was a faithful and active member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, serving as a Eucharistic Minister to the homebound, member of the altar society, and a volunteer at countless church functions. But most of all, she enjoyed cooking and caring for her family and friends. She was always available to listen to a friend in need, provide home cooked meals for a friend coming home from the hospital, and always opened her home to anyone in need. Her hobbies included cooking, sewing, arts and crafts and spending long weekends on South Padre Island.

Estela is preceded in death by her husband, Oscar Cavazos, parents, siblings Felicitos Garza, Jr., Leonel Garza and Carlos Garza. She is survived by her loving children, Michael Cavazos, Terri Cavazos, Gloria (Michael) Cavazos Hooley and Cathy Cavazos Verduzco, 4 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

Viewing was held on Monday, May 31, 2021, from 5:30 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. with a Holy rosary recited at 6:00 P.M. at Good Shepherd Funeral Home. A funeral service to celebrate Estela's life will be held today, June 1, 2021, at 10:30 A.M. at the Raymondville Memorial Park Cemetery. Honored to serve as pallbearers will be Michael Cavazos, Michael Hooley, Ramon Verduzco Jr., Oscar Verduzco, Adrian Verduzco and Gabriel Verduzco.

The family wishes to thank Ismena (Chima) Figueroa for taking such good care of Estela during her later years. The family also wishes to thank her doctors, Dr. Albert Smith, Christie Ambriz (PAC), Dr. Todd Shenkenberg, and Dr. Eduardo Flores for the excellent health care over the years.
