John Levick Obituary

John Alan Levick passed away peacefully on Feb. 16, 2011 at home with his loving wife Mary.

Alan was born in Liverpool, England, on Oct. 3, 1935 to John Henry and Doris Levick. He was the youngest of four children. Alan was drafted into the British Army as a paratrooper and served from 1953 to 1955 and he was based at Trieste, Italy. He also served in the British Merchant Navy.

Alan married Eileen Collins and they immigrated to California in 1960. He became a machinist after his military service and went on to work at the M & N Machine Shop in the Valley doing projects for Lockheed and Disney until his retirement in 1992. Alan met Mary Jo Nelson at Channel Islands Harbor boat docks in 1986 where they both enjoyed sailing. In 1987 Alan moved to Oxnard to be close to Mary and his favorite place, the ocean. Mary and Alan were married in June 1988. They settled at Oxnard Shores and had a long and happy marriage.

Alan is preceded in death by his parents, John and Doris Levick; his sister, Norma; his first wife, Eileen; his mother-in-law, Patricia Herro; and sister-in-law, Linda England.

He is survived by his wife, Mary; daughter, Allison (Mark) Grimes, of Redwood City; son, Stuart Levick, of Oxnard; grandchildren, Bryan and Patricia Grimes; sister, Vera (Les) Hulme, of Grants Pass, Ore.; sister, Barbara (Gordon) Hill, of Liverpool, England; numerous nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Nancy Stancer; David and Stephen Collins, of South Africa.

Alan was a devoted and cherished husband, a much loved father, "Baby Brother," lovable grandfather, special uncle and respected friend. He had many friends who meant a lot to him and who gave him much joy. Alan was a "true English gentleman" with a great sense of humor and perspective on life. He loved spending time with family and friends, his Liverpool soccer team, football, movies, reading, doing crossword puzzles, and living near the ocean.

A private family gathering to sprinkle his ashes at sea will be held on Saturday, March 5. A celebration of Alan's life will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 6 at The Shores Restaurant in Oxnard.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Alan's memory to the Ventura County Sheriff's Department as Alan did yearly, VCDSA Attn: Kathy, 981 S. Victoria Ave., Ventura, CA 93009. Arrangements are by Coast Cities Cremations, Ventura.

I can't believe it's been a year today that you went away. I miss you so much every day. I will always remember you just like this picture...

Thinking of You with Love
We thought of you with love today,
but that is nothing new.
We thought about you yesterday,
and days before that too.
We think of you in silence,
we often speak your name.
All we have are memories,
and your picture in a frame.
Your memory is our keepsake,
with which we will never part.
God has you in His keeping,
we have you in our hearts.
A million times we`ve wanted you.
A million times we cried.
If love could only have saved you,
you never would have died.
It broke our hearts to lose you.
But you didn`t go alone.
For a part of us went with you...
the day God called you Home.

I never realize how lonely a room could be or how lonely a day could be without you to share it. For the hours pass so slowly without you.But I have memories.Happy memories of the times we shared and gentle memories of times alone with you. I keep the thoughts of you warm and close in my heart. I'd give a lifetime and the world for you to be warm and close in my arms.
I miss you Alan
Right in my heart, there will always be you.

Dear Mary and Family,
It saddened me to hear of Alan's death. I remember him with great fondness. His wit, humor and smile will be missed. Mary, he adored you and I will always remember while I was visiting my sister, Margaret, at work, the loving looks and smiles he always gave you.

Sincerely and fondly,

I JUST read this and I am sooo very sorry for you Mary. I have known you both for many years and we had sooo many good times and laughs in the 14 years I worked at the Shores. To the smartest most decent man I ever had the pleasure of knowing. A good man that I am proud and blessed to have called dad. I know you are in a better place - your soul amongst the cosmos. Finally in a place big enough to embrace your greatness. Thank you for always being there for me dad. You are my friend, my hero and my father. God speed you to the other side dad. I wont miss you too much as you are, as you have always been, a part of me - with me - eternally at my side.
Your loving son, Stu
