Luis Salinas Obituary
Oxnard, CA
With love in our hearts, we announce the passing of our father Luis Colmenero Salinas, on Tuesday January 30, 2018, he was 85. Luis was born to Jesus and Belen Salinas on December 27, 1932, in Ysleta, Texas. They moved to Oxnard, CA in 1938, where Luis attended local schools and graduated from Oxnard High School. At 23 he was then drafted into the US Navy and served on The USS Passumpsic Naval Ship as a Fueling and Oil Tanker. After his honorable discharge from the Navy, he returned to his wife Adeline Ordaz in Oxnard. They had three children; Steven, Anthony and Teresa Salinas. Through his kids he was given 13 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Luis began a career working in the jewelry business and after working at Bonds Jewelers for 22 years, Luis opened his own business, Oxnard Jewelers, in 1981. Luis created a personalized experience, providing unique and one of a kind pieces. He retired in 1997 and continued with his passion of collecting Pocket Watches and antiques. Through out the years Luis was also known for collecting classic cars. His cars were entered in car shows and they also appeared in Car Magazines. Luis was a huge sports fan following the local high schools, colleges and professional teams. Some of his favorites were Santa Clara High School, UCLA and the Los Angeles Lakers. He enjoyed music and often went square dancing and loved listening to Mariachis. He loved hanging out with his brothers and friends for monthly card games and going on fishing trips. His endless stories, humor and advice are the memories his family will cherish the most. He is survived by; Adelina O. Salinas, bother, Oscar Salinas; his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Jesus and Belen Salinas and his brothers Daniel and Bernie Salinas.
A Catholic memorial service is planned for 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 8, 2018, in the chapel of Camino del Sol Funeral Home, 200 North "C" St., Oxnard. Internment will follow the service at Santa Clara Cemetery, 2370 North "H: St., Oxnard. Arrangements are entrusted to OTTO & SON'S, , CAMINO DEL SOL FUNERAL HOME, Oxnard. (805) 483-3443
