Stephen Messmer Obituary

Stephen George Messmer

Camarillo, CA

Camarillo- Steve, 68, passed away at USC Norris hospital after a short, hard-fought battle with Pancreatic Neuroendocrine Tumors, a rare stomach cancer. He was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, lived in Glendale where he graduated from Hoover High School. He attended Glendale Jr. College and graduated from Cal State Northridge, where he met his wife, Susan Rae Strane.

He found early love for athletics. Mostly baseball and tennis, likely chosen to avoid being inside doing homework. His natural ability and love for tennis led to playing in the US Army from 1972-1974. He toured and taught tennis from 1974-1988, which was followed by becoming a medical sales representative with the growth of his family.

He is survived by his 3 daughters, Jennifer, Katy, and Karryn, and his son John. He also had 7 grandchildren, Maya, Natalie, Heidi, Tyler, Peyton, Ari, and Daxtin.

Spending time with family, cooking, golfing, boys trips to the rivers and mountains, and politics is what he loved most.

His celebration of life will be held, Saturday, June 10 at Crossroads Community Church. 161 Plaza La Vista, Camarillo CA 93010 with reception to follow at River Ridge Golf Club, 2401 W. Vineyard Ave. Oxnard CA 93036

I am so sorry to read this. In reading about the Ventura fires today, I was trying to find out if Steve's home was in the path and during my search, I came across this obituary.

I worked with Steve for four years (when I lived in WA) - mostly by phone, but he and I had breakfast in Ventura when I was in California on a trip. I always enjoyed him, admired him, and laughed with him. May he rest in peace and may our spirits cross again.

Steve, 8-28-2017

Today is your birthday. How can it be that you are not here to celebrate. You were my brother, confidant, source of humor and best friend. We were supposed to grow old together, forever loving and supporting each other. I miss you.

Can't wait to see you in Heaven.

With all my love, your sister, Joani.

Dear Messmer Family, Gyda, Pete, Joani and Dan,

Although we won't be there physically for Steve's celebration of life, we will be there in spirit, thoughts and prayers! Steve was one of Mom's most supportive relatives. To see her face light up when Steve made the trips to Indianapolis says it all. Please remember you have relatives who will always have an open door should you find yourselves in the Midwest and we will do the same when journeying to the west coast. Our love and prayers are with all of you! God bless!
