Marie Louise Lum

Marie Louise Lum, 85, of Honolulu, Hawaii, passed away Nov. 30, 2009. Service will 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 4, at Borthwick Funeral Home in Honolulu with burial following. Born Oct. 11, 1924, on a farm near Gatesville, Marie was the youngest of Lewis and Hattie Byrom Meharg's children. Her older siblings were Hazel Ray, Tressie Wykes, and Travis "Boots" Meharg. Marie graduated cum laude from Baylor University and received a Master's degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Inspired by General MacArthur's call for missionaries to Japan following WWII, Marie traveled to Hawaii to gain experience before moving on to Japan. While living in Hawaii, she met and married Jack Wahon Lum. Together, they founded Blessed Hope Church where she faithfully ministered for over 50 years. Marie and Jack had a passion for evangelism and spent their lives reaching others with the news that "For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life" John 3:16. Marie preached her last sermon Sunday, Nov. 29, 2009. She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings; and husband. She is survived by four daughters, Esther, Sarah, Becky and husband, Bob Hallman, and Joy; a son, Timothy and wife, Nadeen; and five grandchildren, Jennifer, Jonathan, Noelani, Michael and Taylor.
