One such as Paul who has done so much for so many will not be forgotten, and his life's example will stand forever to those who knew him.

Dear Beth,
I have just learned the news of Paul's passing. I know it has been many years since we have seen one another, but both your and Paul were a great source of strength to the boys and I almost 20 years ago when we lost Gary. It is hard to believe so many years have passed. Paul visited us in the hospital almost daily and his kindness will never be forgotten.I would have been lost without his wise counsel. I will keep you and the girls in my prayers. May God wrap his healing arms around you during this most difficult time.

Dear Beth, Amanda, and Ashley,

I am so sorry to learn of Paul's passing. It has been very difficult for me to comprehend. Paul was a great boss to work for and a good friend. We always enjoyed talking about college football, and the good-natured ribbing that occurred when Baylor and UT played each other. I also recall when Paul renewed his interest in golf and bought a new set of clubs. As a result of that purchase, we enjoyed many rounds of golf together, as well as nights at the driving range over at LMRA. After I left the U.S. Attorney's Office and went to the SEC and started up an annual golf tournament, Paul was always one of the first to sign up. I could always count on Paul. As a matter of fact, Paul and the rest of his team won 2nd place a couple of years ago and the smile on his face was priceless when I handed him his trophy. We also enjoyed trading stories of our families whenever we got together or talked over the phone. He was so proud of Amanda and Ashley. I did not learn of Paul's passing until after the funeral, and am so sorry that I missed it. I understand it was beautiful. The world is a better place because of Paul and I feel privileged to have known him.

Sincerely,
Keith & Tricia Hunter

Mr. Gartner was truly a man of his work. I found myself in his office many times seeking his approval on a project I was doing. Without his efforts and dedication to my cause, I would still be in the rough draft phase. May God bless Paul and his family during this sad time.

Amanda is a dear friend of mine from Baylor, and I know the whole family because I would see them at Baylor football games every week. Mr. Gartner was a great family man who always made time for his girls. Even though he wore Baylor colors proudly, now he gets to walk on streets made of gold! He will be missed.

Paul was a great friend and mentor. He was the reason I started to work at the US Attorney's Office and contiuned to work there for 4 years. He helped me realize that dreams can be caught and some day the dream I have will be no longer be a dream. For that I can not thank him enough.

I will alway remember the great times laughing with him as we walked through the halls.

I am saddened by the sudden and unexpected loss of Paul. I first met him while working at the Fort Worth Police Department when he worked with us on the Weed and Seed Program years ago. We developed a true friendship and Paul was someone who always was uplifting to me regardless of the circumstance. Later, we continued our friendship when I moved to the US Marshals Service and frequently saw Paul at the US Courthouse in Fort Worth. He was a great prosecutor, someone who loved his family and life itself, and we all mourn with you in this loss of a great man.

Pat Kneblick

January 3, 2007

I attended alot of meetings with Paul as he often represented the US Attorney's Office and I often represented the FWPD. He was always a pleasure to work with and just a really nice person. Paul was the first person I'd call in his office because he would always take time to answer my question or help the FWPD with whatever the issue was.

Paul was one of the best prosecutors we, at the FBI, ever worked with. He was always a gentleman, strong, and wise, and always worked the hardest on the cases. He will be remembered for his great contribution to law enforcement in Tarrant County, and more importantly, for his exemplary life of service to others.

David Garrett

It was with great shock that I heard of Paul's sudden death. He, Chief Thomas Windham, Libby Watson, Patsy Thomas and myself developed and oversaw the best Weed & Seed program in the nation that made Fort Worth a much safer place to live. He was a pleasure to work with and all citizens of Fort Worth owe him a debt of gratitude for his dedication to making ours a better community.

I had the honor of working with Paul during his time with the Tarrant County District Attorney's Office. Paul was very smart, well-liked, much respected and always smiling; a true gentleman with high standards and values, a man whose chest would puff out when he spoke of his family. Paul was a man who took time from his busy schedule to attend my retirement celebration this past year. He will be greatly missed. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

As one who has lived among the Baylor family for over 45 years, I know Baylor commitment when I see it. Paul was one of our very best representatives. In our attempts to bring the Baylor Family together, volunteer leaders are absolutely essential. I regret that I do not have the opportunity to thank Paul one more time for his selfless service and enthusiastic leadership. We will miss his unusual commitment deeply. May those who remain find peace through this passage and comfort for the journey.

This community has lost one of its finest prosecutors ever. From the moment he began his prosecutorial career in 1976, he epitomized the very best and most professional in law enforcement. Quiet, extremely hard-working, and always humble, Paul is the example for all who aspire to this high calling. All of us in the District Attorney's Office express our deepest sympathy and condolences to his family and to the community that he served so faithfully.

I am so sad to hear about Paul's death. I am a former high school classmate of Paul's and since that time have only seen and talked to him at reunions. But the characterization of Paul in the obituary was so true... he was full of spirit and full of life. I always enjoyed being around Paul because of that and I noticed that he never seemed to have lost that spirit even after the passing years. I want to express my condolences to Beth and the family... what a fine man and friend we have lost.
