Robert Black Obituary

Robert Black

Apr 25, 1966 - Jun 14, 2025

Robert A. Black, 59, of Lorena passed away peacefully in the late night hours of Saturday, June 14th, just minutes shy of Father's Day. He was surrounded by family and comforted by his wife and children.

A memorial service will be Friday, June 27, 2025 at 2:00 pm at Waco Memorial Funeral Home with the Very Rev. C. Benjamin Magnaye officiating. A private inurnment will follow.

Robert was born in Penenome, Panama, moving to the states with his parents, Hermelinda and Robert B. Black, when he was 4. They moved around in Texas but finally settled in Lorena where he attended school, graduating in 1984. He excelled in sports, earning a college scholarship to play football in Salina, KS. After a year, he came back home and lived his life until deciding to move to San Antonio where fate led him to meet his wife, Patricia. He often told the humorous story of how they met, but his favorite part was always saying, with a smile, "the coyote finally caught the roadrunner"- a nod to their college mascots. They married in 1996 and moved to Dallas. When they decided to start a family, Robert's heart led them back to Lorena. He wanted his children to grow up close to family and experience the values of small-town living. Together they built a home filled with love and laughter.

A dedicated and hardworking man, Robert spent his career in the trucking/delivery sector, working for UPS, Central Freight Lines, FedEx, and AAA Cooper.

When he wasn't working, his life revolved around his children. He was present at all their games, performances, and milestones, beaming with pride. He enjoyed a great round of golf, a quiet day of fishing, and a Dallas Cowboy win. He was lovingly nicknamed the "pyromaniac" because he could make any campfire or fireplace roar with warmth, something the entire family looked forward to. His classmates called him Hadji.

He is preceded in death by his beautiful mother, Hermelinda Black. He is survived by his father, Robert B. Black; his wife, Patricia, and their four amazing children, Marissa (Colin), Marlin, Bobby, and Robby; one grandson, Abel; his siblings, Howard (Dawn), Alfred (Julie), Xenia (Oli), Valari (Benny); and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. And we can't forget, his special side-kick and best dog, Rio.
