Ruby Calderón Obituary

Ruby Treviño Calderón

Mar 20, 1932 - Aug 15, 2025

It is with deep love and sadness that we announce the passing of a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, Ruby Calderón. Ruby was called home on August 15, 2025, surrounded by family in Austin, Texas. Born March 20, 1932, Ruby was the devoted wife of Ernesto, the cherished mother of T. Rey, Tino, and Diana, and the proud grandmother of Adelina and Joaquin.

The youngest of five children, Ruby grew up in Waco, TX. When her brothers all joined the Navy, Ruby left junior high school to help her mother and worked at Cox's department store. She eventually earned her GED through a trailblazing program at Baylor University and her bachelor's degree in liberal arts from Juarez Lincoln University in Austin. Ruby joined her husband in the fight for equality serving the Chicano community focusing on the next generation ensuring they had access to an adequate education.

Family was the cornerstone of Ruby's world, especially her devotion to Ernesto. Completely dedicated to Ernesto for 72 years, their marriage was an example of a true partnership rooted in a deep, unwavering love for one another. Ruby also valued every gathering, every celebration, and every simple moment spent with those she loved most. She loved to cook and gather loved ones around the table, and she equally enjoyed dining out and celebrating life's little pleasures. With her unique sense of style, she dressed for every occasion with confidence and sparkle. She delighted in dancing, playing games, taking photos, and filling every gathering with her radiant presence. Her infectious laughter reflected the complete joy within her spirit.

Ruby's faith guided her life and her relationship with God was deeply personal and enduring. Through her faith, she shared a spirit of giving and kindness that touched all who knew her. She was always ready to lend a helping hand, whether through her countless volunteer work, her crafts lovingly made for others, or simply her warm and welcoming presence.

Ruby's legacy of love, laughter, faith, and generosity will live on through her children, grandchildren, and the many lives she touched. She will be deeply missed, but her memory will remain a blessing forever.

Ruby is preceded in death by her husband, Ernesto; parents, Francisco V. Treviño and Trinidad Villa Flores; brothers, Bennie, Louis, and Frank Treviño; and sister, Virginia Young.

She is survived by her sons, T. Rey Calderón and Tino Franscisco Calderón and his partner Raymond McDermett; daughter, Diana Anne Peña and her husband Marcos Peña; grandchildren, Adelina Severa Peña and Joaquin Eustacio Peña; as well as numerous loving family members and friends.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 21 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm and Memorial Service will be on Friday, August 22 at 11:00 am, both at OakCrest funeral home in Waco, TX.
