Betty Schultz Obituary

Schultz

Betty Jane Stewart Schultz (Age 89)

Of Springfield, Virginia passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on October 2, 2023.

Betty was born to William Stewart and Mary Tims in Belvedere, NJ on December 6,1933. She graduated from Phillibsburg High School in 1952. In 1953, Betty and her friend Lena would travel to Washington, DC to work in the War Department. It is there she would meet her husband Billy "Bill" Bob Schultz. They married on May 17, 1954 at the Naval Receiving Station Chapel in Washington, DC. They would make their home Arlington, VA, where Bill was enlisted in the US Navy as a Yeoman.

Betty and Bill began to build their family of five children in 1955. As an only child she always knew she wanted more than one child. Sadly, she lost her husband after only 15 years in October 1968.

To say Betty was a strong woman is a great understatement. She went on to raise her five children alone without asking for help. Betty took great pride in her work in the defense industry. She ended her long career as an executive secretary for Institute for Defense Analyses (IDA) in 2017 at the age of 83.

Those that knew Betty surely knew of her love for The Washington Redskins football team. She was a long time season ticket holder and fan for every great and not so great season. She was an active member of a football pool for over 30 years. Aside from her love of football, Betty loved cooking, a love she passed to all of her children. The Schultz home in Springfield enjoyed many wonderful family pets through the years. Betty loved animals and fed many a stray as well. Bird watching from her kitchen window was a great passion and her many bird feeders attracted quite a variety for her to enjoy.

Betty leaves behind her children Robert Schultz, Patricia Baumann and husband Robert, Jean Rollins and husband Craig, Joan Corson and husband Brad, and Janet Schultz. A loving mother became a doting grandmother to six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren that provided her with much joy and laughter in her later years. She loved the role of Santa Claus and filled her living room annually with gifts. Her grandchildren are Jennifer Wells, Michael Baumann, Ruth Baumann, Jonathan Rollins, Nicholas Corson, William Corson and two great-grandchildren are William Lucas Jessee and Athena Padilla.

A celebration of life to honor Betty Jane Schultz will take place at Demaine Funeral Home in Springfield, VA on Sunday November 5, 2023 from 1 to 3 p.m. Betty will be reunited with her husband in Arlington National Cemetery in a private family service at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in her honor to one of the following charities that she generously supported.
