To the family, it is with my deepest sympathy I extend my condolence to you and yours at the passing of Deacon Mitchell. I know that he will be a most welcomed addition to heaven, and that his comforting smile and big hearted spirit will radiate in our hearts and minds and keep us until we meet him again. In the meantime, know that his resounding gentleness, strength and love has left an indelible footprint on those who have been fortunate enough to have met him. I thank you for sharing him, and I thank the Lord for ordering his steps. "Weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning." Love, your sister in Christ.

May your faith in the Lord bring you comfort and peace knowing that your Husband and Father has gone to be with our heavenly Father. Deacon Mitchell was admired and respected by so many people. My wife and I returned home about 5 years ago and made it a point to visit Central Union Baptist Church. One of the first to embrace us upon our return was Deacon Claxton Mitchell and his wife. A giant of a man, he welcomed us home and asked "Do you remember us ?" . Now that he has gone home to be with his Father, we can only send our best to the Mitchell and Cummins families. I remember when Claxton first moved to the area, hard working, industrious, honorable, a real gentleman. He went to work with Griner Cummings, a black man who was one of the first successful black business owners in our community. My remembrance is that he met Betty, Mr. Cummins', daughter, my Sunday school teacher, and feel head over heals in love. It was a fairy tale story as you could see the mutual support and love that they felt for each other. A lovely, prayerful example of family that lasted over the years. Our prayers and condenlences go out to all of the family. We were informed today by a Senior member of the church who attends our adult day care program. She could not completely remember the details but was able to inform us of our loss. We encourage the family to keep looking up, time will heal all, and know that Claxton will be missed by many. May God Bless All Who Have Read This Input.

I met Mr. Mitchell through our company to use Mitchell Trucking approximately 6 years ago - since then I had grown a friendship with him. He was a very kind, big-hearted, devoted family and church man and I will miss talking with him about everything from his place and family in Georgia, his son playing basketball, his grandkids and his wife Betty and especially the REDSKINS&COWBOYS!!! I am a Redskin fan and he always called after the weekly games (but not to rub it in so he said!). And you know what, we had never met but I felt like I had known him all my life! I will truly miss him and my prayers are with all of the Mitchell Family. God Bless - Kris Brown (R.B. Hinkle Construction)

Sista M, Can, Chardie & Bob,
My heart is truly heavy when I think of the loss that the world has now that Deacon Mitchell has passed on to glory. But when I think of the fact that we will all be together in glory my heart is lifted and filled with joy. Deacon M was such an encouragement to my life and a delight to my spirit. He was a "GENTLE GIANT" and I shall miss him dearly. Continue to trust God in ALL things. Peace be with you all.
Love, LoreeLou

Aunt Bee and Family,
It's with a heavy heart that I write this tribute a great husband, father and friend. One familiar quote that reminds me so much of him "MAY THE WORK I'VE DONE SPEAK FOR ME". Deacon Mitchell not only touched the lives of his family and church members, he also touched the lives of all that ever came in contact with him. To the Family, be encouraged and know that God is truly rejoicing upon his entrance into the Kingdom, May God Bless You All.
