COLETTE BOLLENS

Colette Bollens, age 98, died peacefully in Herndon, VA on May 8, 2023. She was born on July 24, 1924 to Alexandre and Marcelle Guille in the town of Le Perreux, France (a suburb of Paris). She was one of three children. Her older brother Alexandre fought in the French Resistance and her younger brother Alain was born in 1942, in the middle of World War II.

Colette met her future husband Harold Bollens, a young American Army GI assigned to the 814th Hospital Unit stationed at the American Hospital in Neuilly, Paris. Colette and Harold were married at the City Hall in Levallois, Paris on February 27, 1946. They moved to the United States and settled in Adelphi, MD after a short time in Washington, DC, where their daughter was born.

She is survived by her daughter Michele Bevington (Keith); her two grandchildren, Christopher Bevington (Christina) and Lauren Liggitt (Alex) and four great grandchildren, Emma, Anne, Avery and Cora from Herndon, VA.

Colette, a widow since 1987, remained very active with the Silver Spring MD Lions Club, Association des Anciens Combattants Francais and the World War II War Brides Association.

She asked to be cremated and have her ashes laid to rest with her deceased husband in Adelphi. In lieu of flowers, donations in Colette's memory can be made to the American Cancer Society.
