DANIEL GILHAM

DANIEL Y. GILHAM (Age 82)  
Passed away on December 10, 2018 at Mary Washington Hospital. Dan's parents were local artists, Sigsbee and Kathryn Donohoe Gilham, and he lived most of his life in suburban Virginia until retiring to Fredericksburg. Mr. Gilham had a long civil service career in training and development, including directorship roles with the Navy, USGS, Defense Mapping Agency, and Bureau of Diplomatic Security. After retirement from federal service in 1994, Dan resumed his professional career as the Director of Education for the Potomac Massage Training Institute in 1996, where he was instrumental in PMTI becoming the first accredited institution for massage therapy in the region. Mr. Gilham later returned to public service as the Training Manager for the Commonwealth of Virginia's Building Code Academy, from which he retired in 2005. Survivors include his wife, Velma (Ann) Shimel; sons, Michael and John Gilham; stepchildren Jimmy Boyd and Lisa Cole; and sister Belinda Castleman. He was preceded in death by his parents. A memorial will be held Saturday 12 January 2019, 12 noon, at Covenant Funeral Service; 4801 Jeff Davis Hwy. Fredericksburg, VA 22408.
