Denise Simons-Morton Obituary
DENISE SIMONS-MORTON (Age 72)
Dr. Denise Simons-Morton, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother and accomplished physician epidemiologist, artist, and author, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, at her NW DC home on January 10, 2024. Denise was a passionate researcher whose career at the NIH advanced our understanding of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, hypertension, and chronic disease.
A graduate of Wheaton High School, Denise got her BS and MD at the University of Maryland, her MPH at The Johns Hopkins University and PhD in Epidemiology at the University of Texas School of Public Health. In 2019, Denise published her Memoir Public Health / Private Disease about the intersection of her experience battling Parkinson's Disease and her commitment to advancing public health.
Denise is survived by her husband Bruce Simons-Morton; her daughter Bahia Simons-Lane, Bahia's husband Chris Lane, her son Don Morton; Don's wife Erin Will Morton; and Denise's two grandchildren, Juniper and Rosemary.
Visitation will be January 18 from 2 to 4 p.m. at DeVol Funeral Home, 2222 Wisconsin Ave. NW, Washington, DC. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Parkinson's Foundation or The Michael J Fox Foundation.
