Eleanor B. Gotkin  (1921 - 2021)  
Eleanor B. Gotkin passed away peacefully at home on November 25, 2021, having celebrated the centenary of her birth in August, surrounded by her loving progeny. Eleanor was born on August 31, 1921, in New York City. A bright student who skipped grades, she graduated high school at the age of 16 amidst the deprivations of the Great Depression. During World War II, the patriotic young woman proudly served in administration at the U.S. Treasury Department in Washington, DC. Exemplary of her deep appreciation for the arts, Eleanor later worked for The National Symphony. Active well into her late 90s, Eleanor was a Master Bridge Player, champion bowler, and avid tennis competitor. Eleanor liked and expected to win - instilling a spirit of excellence in her children and grandchildren. Always concerned for the greater good, she was an avid reader of The Washington Post. For over three decades she enjoyed her days at the retirement community of Leisure World in Montgomery County, Maryland.In 1942 Eleanor married the love of her life, the handsome Raymond Gotkin, an entrepreneur in marketing and sales, first in wholesale grocery and later in life insurance policies. Together they raised two beloved children: David, a successful numismatist with amazing expertise in international coins; and Diane, who worked as a computer scientist at the Brookings Institution for 25 years and then as a human resources executive in high-tech start-ups in San Diego. Eleanor was preceded in death by her cherished husband, Raymond and her dear sister Ina. She is survived by her two children; four caring grandchildren, Aaron, Benjamin, Sean, and Sonya; and by her nine great-grandchildren, Adam, Adina, Cassidy, Diego, Eliora, Fionn, Ronen, Ryan, and Sephira. A bright beacon of warm smiles and eternal beauty, Elly will live forever in the hearts of her family and community. Family services private.
