Elizabeth Berry Obituary

On Sunday, August 10, 2025, in Silver Spring, MD. Beloved wife of James Henry Berry; mother of Jonathan Wightman Berry (Gail) of Albuquerque, NM and Eleanor Anne Berry (div. Peter Zdankiewicz) of Southbury, CT. Sister-in-law of Nancy Berry Tanner (John) of Washington DC. Also survived by four grandsons: Luke Alec Zdankiewicz, Henry Traver Berry, Paul Thomas Zdankiewicz, and Mark Philip Zdankiewicz.
Her funeral service is open to the public at St. Columba's Episcopal Church, 4201 Albemarie Street NW, Washington, DC 20016 on Monday, August 18, 2025 at 11 a.m.
Daughter of George William Wightman, President of the US Lawn Tennis Association and Vice President of the American Olympic Committee, and Eleanor McPeake. Daugher-in-law to Traver Law Berry and Frances Mayes Berry.
She had a 34-year career at the Holton-Arms School in Bethesda, MD, serving as Middle School Director from 1982 to 2006, and was beloved to that community. She was also record keeper for the Kenwood Swim Team in the late 1970's.
She had a wonderful sense of humor, was a lifelong learner, and loved cryptic crossword puzzles. Her greatest joys were spending time with her children and then her grandchildren.
