My son John and I will miss Gene tremendously! He was an extraordinary person and we loved him very much. Gene was the master of ceremonies large and small for so many people. For us in particular he performed our wedding ceremony (Mark Sakaley) and was there as the officiant at Mark's memorial service 10 years later.
May the Vikings win one for Gene and may we all raise a glass to the wonder of his legacy.
Love,
Sarah McKechnie

I met Gene first through the family. He taught my brother at St. Johns. My dad helped him get a job at the Meany Center. My sister traveled extensively with him with the AFL-CIO Solidarity Center. Then I had the pleasure of working with him at the IUPAT Training Center. He would come to the center several times a year to teach and I would have the pleasure of setting up his classroom and give him clerical support. When he was there we would get a chance to laugh and talk about the family. We would have lunch together and he would tell me stories. May You Rest In Peace dear Gene. I know the angels are so happy you have arrived.

In 1993 I came to the AFL-CIO in its Education Department, which led me to Gene at the Meany Center. I recall vividly his generosity, robust good humor, and kindness. When he put me through two days of media training, which I desperately needed, he did so as a superb teacher and presence. I will miss him.
