FRANCES ARWILDA  WILSON ABRAMS  
On Sunday, July 2, 2017, Frances Arwilda Wilson Abrams passed peacefully at her home on Princeton Pl., NW, Washington, DC. Born January 7, 1915 in Mobile, AL, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Violet Wilson and the wife of the late Rev. Wellington D. Abrams. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Cora Ann Wilson and two brothers, Benjamin II and Tunstall Wilson. She is survived by her sister, Mary Butler (Wiley) and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Frances began her education through the Mobile public schools. She received her undergraduate and graduate degrees from Alabama State Teachers College. She taught elementary school in Mobile, AL, Richmond, VA and Washington, DC for 44 years. She retired from the DC Public School System in June 1978 as a Reading Specialist after meriting the Eugene Meyer Study Fellowship Award. Frances was married to the W. D. Abrams, Pastor of The Historic First Baptist Church, Georgetown, for 49 years. As the First Lady and a dedicated member of First Baptist Church, Georgetown, she organized and directed a macrame class, served as a member of the Trustee Auxiliary Ministry, the Women's Ministry and Exercise Ministry. She also participated in singing with the Sanctuary Choir on special occasions. Frances was a Gold Leaf Member, over 50 years, of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Moreover, she was the last surviving charter member of Beta Eta Sigma Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta, Inc. of Mobile, AL. Funeral service will be held at The Historic First Baptist Church, Georgetown, Saturday, July 8, 2017, with a viewing from 10 a.m. until 11:59 a.m., with service starting at 12 noon. Burial will be held at the Rock Creek Cemetery, Rock Creek Church Rd. and Webster St., NW, Washington, DC. Friends are invited to join the family for a repast at The First Baptist Church, Georgetown, immediately following the interment.

Mrs. Abrams was such a sweet lady and so kind, she will definitely be missed. Her and I only met once and that one time felt like a lifetime, I thank my mom (Carolyn Singletary) for giving me the opportunity to meet such a wonderful lady. She will be missed by many, Keeping the family in my prayers!
