Frederick Geissinger Obituary

Frederick Wallace "Rick" Geissinger, 78, of Stuart, FL, and Rumson, NJ, formerly of Evansville, IN, Houston, TX and Pelham, NY passed away peacefully on December 16, 2023, his loving wife Michele by his side. A proud graduate of Dartmouth College and the University of Chicago Business School, Rick enjoyed a highly successful 45+ year career in the financial services and banking industries. Serving in top executive roles for Chase Manhattan Bank for 21 years, and ultimately as Chairman & Chief Executive Officer of American General Finance for almost 20 years, his brilliant mind, passion for excellence, depth of knowledge, engaging and considerable speaking expertise was known internationally. Rick served on several corporate boards, was an active political participant in Washington, DC, a longtime member of the prestigious Financial Services Roundtable, had served as a Chairman of the Housing Policy Council and as a Chairman of AFSA, the American Financial Services Association. Consulting work kept him busy in his semi-retirement years.

Rick was incredibly humble and generous, and devoted to his family. Passionate about education, he co-founded the Signature School in 2002, a charter high school in Evansville, IN, consistently rated in the top ten high schools in the United States. Known for both his intellect and extraordinary sense of humor, he loved having an audience for his stories and to enjoy a good laugh. Rick was a certified and enthusiastic soccer coach of his daughter Jackie's teams, and remained in touch with many of the young women he coached who later on sought his career advice and guidance. If there was time left over, Rick enjoyed a competitive golf game, spending time with his grandchildren and Captaining a boating trip.

Rick is survived by his wife Michele, his daughter Jacqueline Geissinger Day and her husband Leonardo Day, his grandchildren Leo and Alexandra, his sisters Lynn Sellers and Patricia Lawson, his nieces Kim Parker and Karen Lawson and nephew Michael Lawson. His brother Phillip predeceased him. Rick's eldest daughter Amy was lost in a tragic bus accident in 1992 while a freshman on the Duke University campus.

The family will hold a memorial service at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 19, 2024 at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church located at 6900 River Road in Bethesda, Maryland, and welcome all to a Celebration of Life at Old Ebbitt Grill starting at 4 p.m. to remember Rick, an extraordinary and wonderful man who earned enormous respect and affection just by being himself. His professional accomplishments, love for everything life had to offer and all the people he encountered along the way, are a clear sign of a life well lived and an incredible example for us all.

I am so sad to hear of Rick's passing. He and I were Tabard fraternity brothers at Dartmouth. Some of you (Lynn and Patty) might remember me from the summer of 1967. That was a very memorable summer for me - and not just because of the Detroit riot. Rick invited me to Dearborn with the promise of a construction job, and you - his family - welcomed me like one of your own. My job and apartment took longer to materialize than expected, but you took my extended stay in stride. Looking back, it seems like an extraordinary imposition, but you all made it feel so natural. Thank you for such fond memories! I am certain some of that ease and generosity rubbed off on me and contributed to the long and happy life I have enjoyed. RIP, Rick, and best wishes to you all.
