Harold Sylvester Obituary

HAROLD FREDERICK SYLVESTER (Joe)

Federal Administrator

Harold Frederick Sylvester (Joe), 65, who had 34 years of government service and ended his career as an administrator for the Immigration & Naturalization Service died January 30 at the Casey House Hospice. He had multiple sclerosis.

Mr. Sylvester was born in Flint Michigan but spent the majority of his life in the Gaithersburg area. He graduated from Gaithersburg High School and then attended the University of Maryland, earning a degree in economics. He also served in the United States Army for four years.

Mr. Sylvester was an administrator for the Immigration & Naturalization Service until his retirement in 1994. He was an avid golfer for much of his life and was also a tremendous sports fan who particularly enjoyed the Washington Redskins.

He is survived by his wife, Loretta; children, Joseph, Kathy and Kenneth; and siblings, Robert, Charles, James and Janie Cobb. Services will be held Thursday February 6 at 2 p.m. at Covenant Life Church, 7501 Muncaster Mill Rd., Gaithersburg, MD. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Mr. Sylvester's name to either the Casey House Hospice in Rockville, MD or any Multiple Sclerosis research organization of their choice.
