HILARY PALEY BYERS CALIFANO  
Hilary Paley Byers Califano passed away peacefully at the age of 82 after a short illness on Thursday, January 27, 2022 in New York City. Vivacious and loving, hilarious and generous, Hilary will be remembered by her impeccable taste, her passion for life and devotion to her family. Hilary was the daughter of CBS Founder and Chairman William S. Paley and Dorothy Hart Hearst Paley. She is survived by Joseph A. Califano, Jr., her beloved husband of almost 40 years, with whom she traveled the world and who adored her beyond words. She was a devoted mother to her loving children, Brooke and Frick Byers; her son in law, Eugene Goldman; and her stepchildren, Mark, Joseph and Claudia Califano. She was an exuberant grandmother to Brian, Russell and Evan Goldman; Jack, Peter, Olivia and Nicholas Califano; and Grace and Patrick Califano Becker. She was a cherished sister to Tony Mortimer, Amanda Burden, Bill Paley, Kate Paley, step sister Joy Ingham and the late Jeff Paley. Hilary was predeceased by her first husband John Frederic Byers III. Hilary was an active and long-standing board member of the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, the Museum of Modern Art and Save Venice.
