JAMES B. HARGETT "Jim" January 7, 1948 ~ August 13, 2021
James ("Jim") Hargett died suddenly at his home on Friday, August 13, 2021. He was born in Washington, DC, grew up in Bethesda, MD, and later made his home in Wheaton. He graduated from the University of Maryland with a degree in philosophy and was a self-taught linguist in three different languages. He worked as an IT Specialist for the MD-NCPPC from 1989 to 2007 and was instrumental in designing the first area-wide technology network for the regional park system. Jim was an avid reader, a devoted train enthusiast, and a well-known bicycle racer in the U.S. and abroad. He is predeceased by two siblings, Richard Hargett and Laura Ruffley, and survived by two siblings, John David Hargett (Ann) and Jane Hargett Martens (Chris); one niece, three nephews, and numerous cousins. He is also survived by his long-time companion, Joyce Mange, as well as many devoted friends. All are invited to an informal Celebration of Jim's Life at Rockwood Manor, 11001 MacArthur Boulevard, Potomac, MD on Tuesday, October 19 from 3 to 6 p.m. A memorial fund in Jim's name has been established with the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad. On behalf of the M-NCPPC Information Technology & Innovation Division, I am sending condolences to the Hargett family. Our team members were so sad to hear of Jim's passing. Jim was hired to replace me when I got my first promotion, and it was such a pleasure to be his teammate as we launched new technology and our first local area network starting in 1989. Jim really enjoyed learning and tackling challenges in IT. I am pleased that I saw him in the last year when he stopped by our office to say hello. I will really miss Jim. I'll see you at the memorial service, which I am so looking forward to. ....Barbara
