James Kefauver Obituary

James M. Kefauver passed away on April 12, 2025 in Gaithersburg, MD following a battle with dementia and peripheral vascular disease. Jim was born in Frederick, MD on July 12, 1940. He graduated from Frederick High School in 1958, from American University in 1962 (where he served at student body president in his senior year), and from the University of Michigan Law School in 1965. He worked his way through law school as a graduate student resident advisor in a project that was the precursor of the residential college at Michigan.

He worked briefly for the Federal Trade Commission in Washington, DC and was later a partner at the Glassie Pewett law firm in DC and then with Shulman Rogers firm in Maryland. His primary field was commercial litigation where he had cases in federal courts in 23 states. He was a member of the DC and Maryland bars and was active in the ABA and local bar associations. He was a life-long Redskins and National fan.

Jim served in the US Army Reserve (310th FASCOM), initially in the enlisted ranks and later as a JAG officer.

Jim and Brenda resided in Potomac, MD and Bethany Beach, DE. From 2004 they lived part-time in Naples and full time from 2008.

Jim is survived by his wife Brenda K. Kefauver. He is also survived by six children and step-children: Karen Kefauver (Santa Cruz, CA), Kathryn K. Goldberg (Berkeley, CA), David H. Latimer (Potomac, MD), Lisa Braun (Solon, Ohio), Sean W. Denny (Ft. Lauderdale, FL) and Edward W. Denny (Bowie, MD) and 10 grandchildren.
